Swim
Comments: Good to do a swim where I wasn't first out of the water. The swim practice and squad over the last 12+ months has really paid off, set a goal of being out of the swim in 6 minutes and came out 5.54 on the beach, another 30 seconds to reach the timing mat which was near transition. Got caught a few times behind slower swimmers, and it did get rough at points but happy to get through it. What would you do differently?: Seed myself a bit higher at the race start, get some more practice in to go over the top of slower swimmers in future. Transition 1
Comments: Always struggle with transitions, ran into them okay, made the decision to go with socks which cost a bit of time as practicing for HIM and above races in future. Helmet took a bit to get over the ears as well What would you do differently?: Unsure, need to analyse further but need to cut at least a minute off Bike
Comments: Sort of blind as I couldn't get my polar monitor to pick up speed on the bike, so rode my first race without seeing speed. Notice heart rate was around 150 all the way through. Felt I could have gone slightly harder, however paid for it on the small run leg. What would you do differently?: Get bike better set up, at end found front brakes hadn't been adjusted properly. Go a bit harder, ensure I have speedo working to know if keeping speed up above 30 at all times Transition 2
Comments: Took time to take small sip of water before run, as no liquid taken on bike course at all What would you do differently?: Drink on bike before finishing, go harder Run
Comments: Out and back course, being so short legs felt heavy the whole way and didn't hit my stride until the sprint over the last 30 metres Post race
Event comments: Good race to come back on, only did it to help friend in his first hit out and to get me back racing after a year off, despite training for HIM and longer. Despite decent result and not going overly too hard, still realise the shorter stuff is not my preference. Last updated: 2010-03-14 12:00 AM

No real routine, changed bike over to race wheels the morning before, pulled out the aero helmet and back the back the night before. Went to party the night before but got home early, disrupted sleep due to 2 week old child requiring feeds. Got up 30 minutes before my alarm as per usual on race mornings.
Did a 1km run warm up, water felt uninviting to do a real swim warm up
