Swim
Comments: Good swim for me. No leakage issues (a big concern). Was never passed and passed 6 or so folks in front of me sent off at 10 sec intervals. Last 200 m was spent right on someone's feet until last 30 m when I went inside and passed her to get onto the ladder first. Didn't push myself too hard and felt pretty comfortable the whole time. What would you do differently?: Not much racewise. Transition 1
Comments: It sure was cold exiting the natorium! Ran around transition and got to bike. No major issues with gear except slight hesitation getting up to speed. Bike
Comments: Good ride for me. Held back a decent bit trying not too burn legs too much. Was pretty cold at times but was able to focus and not pay the discomfort much attention. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a smidge more. Transition 2
Comments: By the time I got to T2, my spot to rack had basically been taken over by other competitors. I had to push 2 bikes out of the way and then rack mine. But my worst part was that my feet were frozen! I've got poor circulation and suffer from Reynaud's disease so I couldn't feel my feet and hands very well. Made for very slow going taking off bike shoes & putting on socks/running shoes. What would you do differently?: Not much I could do except for hope for warmer temps. Run
Comments: My lack of training and racing reared its ugly head here. I didn't over extend myself in the first 2 disciplines, just not trained enough. Due to the cold I didn't feel my feet for the first 2 miles and felt like I was running on bricks. Just tried to keep a quick turnover but with entirely too small strides. The lack of running hills in training showed as I slowed down considerably even up the slightest incline. But I was able to keep moving and finish strong (but with some still in the tank). Post race
Warm down: Grab a Gatorade, find my family and shiver while talking with friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. For the most part I executed my "race" but I just need to realize I won't be faster until I become dedicated to actually training. But since speed isn't my primary goal (egads!), I had a blast just getting out there and doing what I can. Event comments: I enjoy the race and its different format. Fun to race close to home and with friends. I'm clearly not the fastest but love to get out there and have fun competing. Last updated: 2010-03-15 12:00 AM

I had packed all my tri gear the night before. Spent morning of the race in chaos as I brought my whole family in support: my beloved wife, Angie and our kids: Abby, 8; Whitt, 3; and Quinn, 1. No time to get nervous as I was too busy herding them.
Shivering! It was in the low to mid-40s and windy pre-race. Struggled to get family (including the double stroller) up & down sets of stairs to get to transition. Once set up, chatted with friends, and then headed to pool. Didn't even think about getting into the water.
