Swim
Comments: Got stuck against the wall and had to deal with the jets hitting me in the face when I tried to breath to the outside of the pool. Felt cramped on the shallow end, and the deep end was very different for sighting my flip turns, so I only did them once in a while. Saw Katie's camera flashing a few times, I liked that. Felt short of breath and ended up breathing 2-3-3 instead of 3-4-3 What would you do differently?: Get off the wall, suck it up and flip turn more. Wear clear goggles in the darker pool. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled a bit getting shoes on in T1, this may be where I cut my leg. What would you do differently?: Maybe dry off feet a little, as that may be faster than having to kneel to get my shoes on. Bike
Comments: Got passed by one guy, passed a bunch, not sure how many were in my wave or AG. Rode onto the gravel once, but didn't panic and got back on the road quickly. Caused me to remember I was in a race and needed to focus. What would you do differently?: Figure out a better way to tape my gel to the bike. But, the way I had it on the top tube wasn't bad. Transition 2
Comments: While taking my right foot out of my shoe, I pulled the shoe off the pedal and rode in to T2 holding in onto the drops. What would you do differently?: Get shoes off better. Learn to run without socks. Run
Comments: Started getting a side stitch about half a mile into the run. Not sure if I drand too much on the bike, or if it was from the extra pop in the morning. The stitch came and went, so at the water stop I used a cup over my head to cool off some. Didn't get passed at all, tried to encourage those I passed, used the IM Talk lingo of "Love your work." a few times and got some laughs. What would you do differently?: Push harder. I think my mind is now whats holding me back. I'm afraid of crashing at the end and leave too much in the tank. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, stretch, shower, pack up transition, watch the Kids Tri and awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental. I think I need to bonk once to see what it feels like, then I'll have a reference as to how hard I really can push myself. And practice the small Transition stuff. Event comments: I think putting a single water stop at the turn around point is a bad idea. If it was moved 1/4 to 1/2 mile from that point, you could get water twice, but maybe logistically this doesn't work. Last updated: 2010-03-16 12:00 AM

Slept like crap on a bed that felt like it was made of cardboard. Got up 1/2 an hour before I wanted and had my english muffin and Sunkist. Katie and Hazel dropped me off at the school and went back to her folks house.
Set up my transition in a good spot. Walked all the in and outs, did a couple strides on the track. Drank some water and another pop, maybe the extra Sunkist was a bad idea. Was able to swim half a lap before my wave start.
