Overcast
Total Time = 1h 21m 26s
Overall Rank = 46/355
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/38
Pre-race routine:

Camped at Heidi's the night before. Relaxed on Friday, couple of beers. Up early on Saturday to drive to Wasaga. Registered, set up transition area then off to the start.
Event warmup:

No real warm up. Jumping jacks and running on the spot but mostly to keep warm.
Swim
  • 19m 43s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water felt very cold at first. I thought it would be warmer so I didn't wear a wetsuit. I thought I did a lot better than my time. I even investigated to see if there was a timing error. I guess I was a little too comfortable and needed to pick up the intensity.
What would you do differently?:

More swim practice. Pick up the intensity.
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Above time does not include run up from beach with was time separately. Good transition. Swerved a little on my mount but overall OK.
Bike
  • 34m 59s
  • 20 kms
  • 34.30 km/hr
Comments:

Really good bike. I was happy with my average speed and very proud of an overall of 16.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work hard.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Happy with transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 52s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 46s  min/km
Comments:

Had a moment about halfway where I though I was going to puke. Dialed it back a little, recovered and was able to pick it up for the last KM. I would have liked to go a little faster below a 4:30 pace. No drinks.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Biggest factor was probably pushing hard on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to the bridge to see if I could find my bar end cap. No luck.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just training. Looks like my biggest weakness is my swim and I plan to work on that over the winter.

Event comments:

Good event. Well organized. The delay to give the people who arrived late time to register so I think it was justified. I will do it again next year and hope to see an improvement.
