Swim
Comments: An okay swim- not my best. Sighting was tough as for the first 300 yards or so we were swimming directly into the sun. The water was pretty murky as well, which made it difficult to see who was around you. There was a fair amount of contact to start. On the way to the first buoy I tried to stay as far right as I could and sighted okay. After the turn I found lots of open water and swam pretty well across to the next buoy- actually ended up almost under it! After that second turn I lost my way a bit- I couldn't really see the buoys marking the finish and ended up way off to the left and had to make my way back. What would you do differently?: Sight better. Transition 1
Comments: An okay transition- my suit got caught up a bit, but I got my shoes on pretty easily. Ran out with my bike okay, but slipped a little at the mount line and dropped my bike. Once I got it righted I was a little thrown off and almost bit it getting clipped in and up to speed. What would you do differently?: Not slip and drop my bike. Continue to practice getting my wetsuit off. Bike
Comments: Once I got on my bike and up to speed, it was a good bike for me. I do so much of my training on the trainer that I am still not 100% comfortable on the road, but I handled the turnarounds well, passed a few people and only got passed by a few. After the turnaround, on the way back there was a pretty strong headwind, but other than that the bike course was fast and easy. What would you do differently?: Get outside on my bike more to increase my confidence. Transition 2
Comments: One thing slowed me down at this transition- I left without my race belt/ number. Luckily, the volunteer at the run out realized it before I actually left the transition area. Other than that, I don't know what else I could have done quicker here, except keep working to get my sneakers on faster. What would you do differently?: Not leave without my race belt. Run
Comments: The run was okay- the first mile was really tough for me- My legs were okay, but I was having a hard time keeping my heart rate down. I walked through the aid station at mile one, took a few deep breaths and felt much better after that. Got passed by a lot of people on the run, but also managed to pass a few myself. I feel good about the improvements I have made in my run and I think what made the first mile hard was that my heart rate was up from the swim, then from being so nervous on the bike. Once I got that under control, it was smooth sailing. Until the last 200 yards or so, which was on the beach on very soft sand. That was not a treat. What would you do differently?: Not much, just keep working on my run. Post race
Warm down: Got some water, my finishers shades, had a banana and a bit of bagel then waited for Paul to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just my own slowness mostly, as well as some nerves on the bike Event comments: I am only rating the post race activities average because on their website they advertised Chipotle at the post race, but it was only chips and salsa and I really wanted a burrito! Also, I forgot my id for the beer tent, but that was my bad! Last updated: 2010-03-22 12:00 AM

The usual- up early for a bagel, peanut butter, a banana and some water. Got to the race site plenty early, got marked, set up transition, used the porta potty, got the wetsuit on and then headed down to the swim start.
Not too much- got in the water for a few minutes to get a feeling for the temp (which was cold!) and swam a few strokes
