Pre-race routine:

Usual. Up at 4:30, bagel, peanut butter, banana, honey, water. Got dressed, drove to the race site. Drank a second bottle of water with a nuun tablet on the ride over.
Event warmup:

None, since it was a one mile walk from the parking lot to the race start and once I got there, I spent 30 minutes in line for the porta-potty. Hustled to the starting line with about 30 minutes to spare and ended up in the back under the 14 minute mile sign.

Comments:

This run started off really well, and stayed that way through mile 8. For that portion, I was keeping a pace of low 9 minute miles, which is great for me. Miles 5-8 were brutally hilly. Right around mile 8 there was an aid station at the top of a hill, where I grabbed a gu but there was no water to wash it down. Gross. Continued to feel pretty good for the next two miles (8-10) although my pace was slowing a bit, closer to a high 9 minute mile.

At mile 10, the wheels came off! Miles 10-12 really felt like I had nothing left. I knew I was going into this race a bit undertrained, and the last week had been tough with a bad leg cramp and a bit of sickness. My plan going into the race was to take it conservatively and walk if I had to if my leg started cramping. I felt so great for the first ten miles, even with the hills, that I kind of abandoned that plan and I suffered in the end because of it. Walked a bit few times between miles 10 and 12. Got a lift when I saw the mile 12 sign because I knew the end was near. Last three miles were closer to and 11 or 12 minute pace than the 9-10 I had been keeping. But again, that didn't surprise me because my training wasn't as great as I wanted it to be.

Despite that, I still pr'ed my half time by about 7 minutes, so really, I can't complain!
What would you do differently?:

Train more, maybe go out a bit slower, maybe bring my own fuel belt so I could be assured of water. Overall, however, I am happy with the race and happy with my time!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish area, found Paul and Caleb, as well as the NQ girls. Got some water, a banana, and a myoplex. Hung out for a while, then walked the mile back to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training, a tough course and my own slowness!

Event comments:

I would like to rate this race higher, but because of the problems with the water stations, I can't :)

Performance: Good
Course: Hilly. The entire thing was either going up or going down. No flats to speak of. Not surprising since the course did go through the Blue Hills. Since it was mostly through woody areas, there was plenty of shade.
