Swim
Comments: Like I said, a fast run for me. I was pleased, kept pace with some rather fit looking people, not bad for a fat guy. What would you do differently?: Pretty much did what I could here. I am pleased Transition 1
Comments: I got a crap spot for my transition, but since this is really another training day, no big deal. Really sub 2 min for the transition was pretty good! What would you do differently?: I could have run with the bike a little more, but I was doing pretty well. I passed a lot of people when I just jumped on the bike and took off. Being in the right gear was key! Bike
Comments: I did o.k for my first competition ride on a road bike. I have a lot to learn about how to bike well. I have to spend some time on the 2 wheeler getting faster. I fell into a small slow moving group to start with, but only hung with them for about half a mile. I pretty much stroked it the whole way, not trying to leave some in the tank for the run by any means, I wanted to see how fast I could do the bike. What would you do differently?: Kick it into fast right off of the bat. Transition 2
Comments: I need to do more bike to run bricks! What would you do differently?: Get my brick on to learn how to push through the heavy leg syndrome. Run
Comments: I enjoyed the run after the first half mile. I need to learn to step it up and just trust my pace at the start. I think I need a garmin, please tell my wife I need a garmin so I can tell my pace at the start of the race. Anyway, I kept a solid pace through mile 1 and 2, then crushed it on mile 3, passed probably 5 people on the last mile and was not passed at all. What would you do differently?: Pace better at the start, perhaps I could have gone under 25 Min. Post race
Warm down: Met with the KC multisport guys, ate a banana, pounded a couple 16 oz cartons of chocolate milk, jumped on the steed and headed for the house at a very slow pace spinning fast. What a fun event. What limited your ability to perform faster: My fat gut, my 18" calves and my 28" thighs. Heavy legs are not conducive to running, or swimming for that matter! I did great with what I have though, and am quite excited for the future, especially when it comes to running. Event comments: Great event, plenty of support, an overall fun time. I woke up and had the normal oatmeal and an apple. Then rode to the event.
SWIM WAS CANCELED BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MUCH POO IN THE WATER! THE SWIM SEGMENT WAS A 2 MILE RUN TO START OFF THE DUATHLON. FUN STUFF!
I ran along the dam to warm up for the run. I mashed a clif bar (banana nut bread, and it was good!) before taking off. I had FRS and Powerbar pink juice in my water bottle because that is what I downed for my 10K last month. I am pretty sure that FRS is nothing special, and Powerbar fruit punch is pretty much maltodextrin and some other junk sugar. Any way, it was good.
I rode to the venue about 5 miles from the house, so my legs were warm, ran like I said, then got out with the triathlon group and gave her the business!
