Swim
Comments: Woo Hoo! Personal Best (w/ and w/o wetsuit) -- shaved almost 5 min. off last year's time. The Masters swimming this summer is paying off!!! Started at the far right at the front, good placement. Handled the bumping well, eased up a bit after 1st turn buoy so had something left for the end. Sighting went well, every 10-12 in general (every 6 on buoy approach) worked best. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Now I just need to improve technique in the off season. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1, getting up that hill to the dismount line is tough (HR got up to 190). (76th overall, 10th in AG) What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Took a while for HR to come down after swim and T1 (max 190), then first hill, didn't settle down until after R off Mtn. Lake Rd. onto Lakemont. Pushed hard (124 max cad.). That triple-downhill descent was a bit scary (38.5 max mph), glad I rode it on the horns, I hit a small bump in the shadows at the bottom. Stayed in the saddle on the hills to save something for the end. Drank too much, with the hard pace my stomach wasn't digesting the liquids. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much when pushing so hard Transition 2
Comments: This is always the toughest dismount line, but did a good job jumping off w/ shoes on. Gotta love my daughter yelling at me, ringing the cowbell, to go faster (actually fumbled a bit w/ the running shoes) What would you do differently?: Focus on balance while putting on running shoes Run
Comments: Worst run in a while: stomach was basically cramping the whole time from too much drinking on the bike. Felt I could have gone harder, but my stomach was in knots and wouldn't let me. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much on the bike. Better too little than too much. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, some watermelon, banana, Clif Bar. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor drink discipline on the bike. Not enough running mileage (then again, I was focusing on swim training) Event comments: Another awesome race by SetupEvents. Shaved over 6 minutes off last year's race, most on the swim (almost 5 min.). With swim technique work and being more careful drinking the bike, my times keep getting better. Culpeper was my first tri 2 yrs. ago and it's still my favorite. Last updated: 2010-03-25 12:00 AM
