Pre-race routine:

Got up early ate a bannana and special K bar. Drank water and headed to the race an hour before. Thought about the race and was a little nervous--I knew I didn't have the amount of miles in I needed to do the race but knew i could make it!
Event warmup:

Some stretching and thought my first 2 miles in the race would be a warm up!
Run

  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

I felt reaaly good for the first 4miles settled in after that--passed a lot of people which I thought I probably should have started in the group ahead of me--they broke people up in groups according to times! When approaching mile nine I felt a lot of muscle pulling in upper thighs and calfs--really wanted to stop and walk but then I knew if I did that my legs would not start again!!! when approaching the tenth mile pain went away and I thought I only have three more miles and I will try to go faster to get done--and little did I know I was already going as fast as I could!!!! The last three miles were long and painful.
What would you do differently?:

Train more with more miles. I think my longest run before the race was 9 miles. I did not meet my ultimate goal time, but overall was happy with my results for the trainng that I did. I realized that people run races for different reasons and if you ran your race they way you wanted to then that is all that matters. My goal was not to walk, run as hard as I could and finish before 2 hours and 30 minutes. I completed all three.
Post race
Warm down:

lots of water. Felt horrible should of stretched more and walked more!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of miles. It was very humid. Lots of people to filter around and probably not do a triathlon the week before.

Event comments:

Great place to run a flat course. Lots of drink stations and volunteers. Very well organized!
