Run
Comments: Not bad, given the relatively humid conditions. Always felt like I was pushing it, but not too hard. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Great transition, shoes stayed in place, got on quickly, got in each shoe on the first try. Probably took less time than I recorded because I hit the lap button late, but close enough. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was pretty smooth. Bike
Comments: Went out too hard, considering I haven't been on the bike in two weeks. Held 20mph going up the second, hardest hill on the first lap, and didn't have much left after that. Still, no one passed me that I didn't pass right back, and I passed several others. What would you do differently?: Certainly not getting hurt and having to stay off the bike for two weeks would have helped. I know I can ride this course faster... Transition 2
Comments: Don't know if I can get faster than this... What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Caught a cramp in the calf from the start of the run, further proof that I pushed too hard on the bike. Did manage to run with it, still hurts a little, hope this isn't the perma-cramp/pull that I had earlier this year. Still, per the HRM I was fairly well red-lining it. Had three or four of those slow bikers pass me up, no one I recognized out of my age group. What would you do differently?: Not get a cramp, actually do some speedwork in training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched the calf, drank my chocolate milk, then waited with John for Brandy, Angel, and and others to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Two weeks off the bike, crampy calf. Event comments: This is the "Louisiana State Duathlon Championship," put on by Rusty Bex and the guys that put on CajunMan, so they do a great job. Stuffed goody bags, lots of door prizes (Brandy and Matt each won one), good jambalaya, plenty of beer and other drinks post-race. Showing what a sorry state Louisiana is for duathletes, I ended up with second place in my AG, which was a nice surprise. Did shave nearly eight minutes off of last year, three minutes on the runs and five minutes on the bike. Last updated: 2005-12-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30, had bagels and coffee, showered, dressed, drove to race site with mama bear. Got there early enough to get a great spot in transition, on the aisle, third row from front. Still had room on our rack when Brandy and John got there, so they joined us. Pointed out to mama bear that mine was nearly the oldest bike on the rack, she was not impressed or ready to let me buy a new one. ;)
Walked around and talked to other athletes, saw Matt (Biseman) and Chris (rugby kid), quite a few local friends as well.
Rode the bike ten minutes or so, hit porta potti, ran ten minutes or so, hit porta potti, powdered my feet, then lined up to race.
