Swim
Comments: I realized before our wave went off that it was definitely going to be longer considering the first wave was just around the first buoy by the time we were starting, so I paced myself appropriately for the longer course. Fair amount of chop when swimming parallel to shore, got a couple mouthfuls of water during course. Started right behind Jenny Thompson - but she's was gone before I knew it! Very turbulent start with lots of whitewater and contact with people. Was able to draft off people a few times, working on keeping close to their sides. Had difficulty navigating on way back to shore due to lack of buoy or big overhead banner - I think I definitely swam out of the way a bit. What would you do differently?: I think I was able to accommodate pretty well to the longer course. nothing... Transition 1
Comments: Though I felt well during the swim, this was the first time I felt a bit rough coming out of the swim - and the long beach run to transition didn't help. I was able to jog the whole time, but felt a bit like I could throw up... My goal time was under 4:00 though...so mission accomplished. Not having to take a wetsuit off helped too! A little slow clipping in on the bike What would you do differently?: learn to mount w/ shoes clipped in already Bike
Comments: Fun course w/ rolling hills, but sunny w/ no shade and HOT. Was worried about the heat and dehydration and ended up drinking too much which hurt me on the run. Maybe went too fast on the bike.. .contributing to crapping out on run. Passed lots of people on the bike, only passed by a few. What would you do differently?: Don't drink so much. Transition 2
Comments: Again, hurting a bit coming through transition...but just kept jogging. What would you do differently?: Again, need to learn to mount/dismount w/ shoes clipped in...someday. Run
Comments: Pathetic! Couldn't really call this racing... my goal was just to keep running/jogging and to not throw up. Came very close 3 or 4 times. I think I drank too much on the bike... and then my body just didn't like the heat/high humidity. Thank goodness for the residents who had their hoses out to keep cool! The sun was beaming and no shade. I just couldn't even think about upping my pace. Sad. What would you do differently?: Avoid mid-day races, don't over-drink on the bike! Post race
Warm down: walk and then head into the water. What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT!!!!! UGH! Event comments: Great race, well organized (but would add more volunteers checking people in to speed up that process and add more water on the run - especially given the heat). Very fun course and great support from the locals! Last updated: 2010-03-28 12:00 AM

Had coffee and a bagel about 8:30. Lots of lounging on the deck, overlooking the beautiful water at Susanne and Joel's. Had honey stingers about 15' before race start.
Got a quick swim in - would of liked a little more, but they made us wait around for the pre-race mtg, which was late and they started very soon thereafter.
