Swim
  • 07m 11s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

First surf swim. In the bay, was as flat as glass.
Need to learn not to drink the salt water though.

Also need to learn to swim straight. Navigation was not the best.
What would you do differently?:

Practise running on the sand. That killed my swim time because the beeper was up the top of the stairs. Took me ages to get up the sand!
Run faster to the water to get out in front. Annoying people grabbing my legs.

Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Comments:

I need to learn to get onto the bike with the shoes attached.
T1 will get better once I start wearing my suit, I am still in bathers and getting dressed at present.
Also need to learn to not wear sock in bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run in bare feet. Feet are too soft and get cut easily.
I have had some tips on rubber banding shoes to stop them dragging. Need to learn balance.
Bike
  • 26m 49s
  • 10 kms
  • 22.37 km/hr
Comments:

I was injured (ITB) so I definitely was not going as fast as I could have. I was protecting the leg on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Need to put in a lot of work outside and on the trainer over winter. Once the leg is right of course :)
Transition 2
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

I fell over (right onto my injured leg) because I just unclipped instead of taking shoes off. This is something I need to learn
What would you do differently?:

Shoes need to stay clipped to bike.
I also still run with socks, because I am a wuss.
Run
  • 19m 52s
  • 2 kms
  • 09m 56s  min/km
Comments:

Dead last in the run. By the time I got off the bike, I couldn't run due to the injury. I did the best I could, still not last in my agegroup though!!
What would you do differently?:

I am working a lot on my running over the off season. Injury did not help.
Post race
Warm down:

None. I walked most of the run, so that was cool-down enough

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ITB strain.
Lack of running ability!

Event comments:

I think it was pretty good. It was the first race I have done that looks "professional" and the atmosphere was great.
The other two races that I complete were charity events and were more for fun than competition.
I need to get used to a competitive environment!
