Swim
Comments: It went ok - I just never got into a comfortable breathing rhythm. When I train, I like to breathe every 4th stroke, but I had to breathe every other stroke pretty much the entire way. After making the final turn I sited off of heads rather than buoys, which turned out to be a mistake. I found myself way off course to the right behind a group of guys from the wave ahead of me. I'm sure I lost a little time getting back on track. What would you do differently?: Not site by where other people are. Transition 1
Comments: I took this slow. I'm much faster than this in sprints, but this was my first OLY and I was winded coming out of the water. I also wolfed down half a banana while in T1. Bike
Comments: I noticed that I was significantly slower on the 2nd loop. I stayed in aero as much as I could, but during the 2nd lap I started to get real uncomfortable in the "undercarriage." Transition 2
Comments: My legs were hurting when I got off the bike, so I ended up walking about half way to my transition area. Run
Comments: Holy suckfest. Simply brutal. The swim had taken a lot out of me. The bike took a lot out of my legs. It was freaking hot. I walked a lot, plus at about 2.5 miles in I had to run into a restroom to pee. This was the first race I've been in where I needed a pee break, but I'd prefer to be over-hydrated vs dehydrated on a day like that. I had assumed I would be slow, but I came in even slower. Oh well, I finished, putting my first OLY behind me and that was a great feeling. The water stops were great, and I loved the ice cold towels! Post race
Warm down: The misting tent was GREAT. I actually did not realize how hot I had been until I stepped into it - cold water hit my head and I felt warm water running down my body... I was actually heating the water that quickly. For the first time ever I took advantage of the free massage - it was actually more of an assisted stretch, but it was awesome (my legs were crazy tight). I took my first ever ice bath when I got home. Not as much fun as advertised. Event comments: The NJ State Sprint was my first ever triathlon in 2008. In 2010 it was my first Olympic distance tri. It was great... very, very well run. Thanks to all the volunteers and thanks for the misting tent! Last updated: 2010-03-30 12:00 AM

Up at about 4:20 - Showered, shaved, etc. Packed up the car and hit the road for the short 25 minute ride. Had a pbj sandwich en route. Arrived at about 5:35 and set up transition. Had a granola bar and a banana during the next hour, and drank a ton of water. Hung out with a friend of mine who was also competing.
Swam a little.
