![]() Swim
Comments: Put myself on the outside front row to try to have less people to run into. For not many people in the water there seemed to be a lot of bumping for about 1/2 the swim. Not used to having people draft off of me. Sometimes I have to pop up a bit longer to make sure I am on course and the person behind me would run into my feet, that must have happened 4-5 times. Not much happenin on the swim, swam into the sun up stream for a brief section then did a 180 and swam down river for the remainder. Hopped up onto the dock and walked up the ramp while I got my bearings. I am guessing that the swim was either short or there was a bit more current that it seemed, that would be a pr of 6+ minutes at this distance What would you do differently?: Not much else. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Was completely confused on where to enter transition, they made you run around the side instead of right into the middle, which I didn't know until trying to run into the middle of transition and they told me I had to run around the outside. Got to my rack and pulled the bottom half of my wetsuit off and bam, right calf completely siezed up and I fell over, took a bit before I could even pull the suit off it hurt so bad. After that it was a pretty normal transition. The calf issue caused me a ton of time. What would you do differently?: Not have my calf cramp up on me. ![]() Bike
Comments: The profile that they had up did not do this course justice. There was pretty much no flat sections the entire time. There were some pretty good hills around campus we had to go through, then out into the country. None of the hills were overly steep but quite a few of them seemed rather long. Still trying to figure out how to ride the right wattage with hills. Having a double I was way over going up every hill, so I tried to ride them as easily as possible. The descents were all pretty fast and lots of blind corners. A pre-ride would have been good since I had no idea what was around the corner I scrubed a lot of speed. AVG watts 185 was pretty close to what I was supposed to be riding Slightly disapointed with this time, slower than Mooseman last year but the plan was to ride easier so I could have a decent run. What would you do differently?: Going to put a compact crank on for Columbia next week, might have helped here, I was either in the top or bottom gear the entire race. Also need to figure out how to average my power out for hilly rides. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Good T2 for me, still confusing on which way to go to leave transition What would you do differently?: Have them label bike out and run out ![]() Run
Comments: Legs felt good, started off around 7:45/mile then dropped off when I hit the hill in the middle, and ended up in the low 8's. Saw Marmadaddy out there and got a high five. Got quite a few "GO BT" since I was wearing the BT kit that Ron was very cool to give me for the race. Not much else happenin on the run, would have like to go a bit faster but didn't have anything left. What would you do differently?: Fastest Oly 10k so far, so that is good. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line and coughed for 5 straight minutes, I was waiting for someone to send the medical staff to check on me since I was getting some odd stares. Sam and the kids came over to congratulate me which is always awesome. Drank a gu brew, much better tasting than the Hammer stuff, will probably stick with that for now. Saw Rick & Mike after they finished, and watched Ron cross the finish line. Was great to see everyone. Picked up my stuff from transition and snagged the name tag off my transition "box" I figured they weren't going to use it for anything else since it had my name on it. What limited your ability to perform faster: 2 weeks after Lonestar, this was definitely a "B" race but should have been a bit faster on the ride. Event comments: Very cool to meet all the BT folks at the house and a few others there. I think a good first try for the Knoxville Rev, some improvements could be made but all and all a pretty good race. Last updated: 2010-03-31 12:00 AM

Sam, Kids and I drove to Bristol on Thursday and finished the drive to Knoxville Friday am. Went to the BT house and dropped our stuff off then over to the race site.
Took the kids to a park while Sam got a run in, it was hot 90+ on Friday.
Saturday, went over to the race site for the Kids adventure race, Sam and Drew did that. They had a great time and actually came in 2nd.
Saturday night had an awesome dinner prepared by Rick, Mila. Got to bed a bit early.
Race morning, walked down to the water, hung out with Mike, Ron and Chris for a bit before jumping in the water.
Saturday short OWS in the river, short bike and run around the fairgrounds.
None on raceday.
