Swim
Comments: good position and thought I was warmed up and ready to go. Had to tread water at start, lots of pushing and shoving, okay for a while, then just could not get my breath, took in water, first 100 meters were tough - backstroked a little and then rolled over and finished freestyle - whew! determined not to skunk this one. What would you do differently?: not open my eyes under the water - focus on side view and use sighting for navigation. probably take claritin D night before - think sinus were acting up and was part of breathing issue. Transition 1
Comments: Loooonnnnngggg way to transition area from swim. Muddy, rocks, sand, dirt, grass - - optional shoes - but did it barefoot, uphill to boot! What would you do differently?: time actually changing was good Bike
Comments: good bike - -disappointed in overall pace, thought I had done better. Felt like it! Kept my pace smooth and did not overdo on the hills. Awesome down hills, passed MANY people who were pedaling downhill and I was tucked and flying!!! Love the down hills! What would you do differently?: work harder to get stronger on up hills - -hill drills, standing up??? Transition 2
Comments: another long trek to rack, through rocks, dirt and grass. Fast transition with shoes. What would you do differently?: run faster with bike? Run
Comments: kept it steady and even, did not push hard, glutes and hamstrings were tight and needed to work out kinksl about 1.5 miles into run, it started to feel good and I picked up pace a tiny bit. Not sure of my run capability and wanted to leave some strenght for the hills at the end. What would you do differently?: practice hills and running more! Post race
Warm down: rest, sat down and rested my weary legs! coke and turkey sandwhich. What limited your ability to perform faster: choking on swim, strenght on bike and practice on run Event comments: Need more light in morning to find parking - pitch black and couldn't find roads or parking area. Long lines for same day packet pick up - seem to move okay, time of events good - - like that they started the awards at 9am (even if everyone had not finished) - first time I got to see it. did not go to early packet pickup - instead did day of race (got there at 5:20am - - good thing - lines were VERY long. Oatmeal and hot tea for breakfast, 2 aspirin and banana at site, walked transition area, lake, run hill, bathroom (several times).
tested water, okay (warmer than air temp), bobbed in water to get face used to water temp, swam a little (where we were allowed) felt good to go.
