Swim
Comments: TT swim start. First OWS with the wetsuit on. Felt pretty good. Bi-lateral the entire swim (which I almost never do). Sighting was a little off the first stretch but was dead on the other 2 segments. Didn't particularly push the swim but didn't take it easy either. Swim time was 2+ minutes faster the fastest OWS of last season. Water was a perfect 71 degrees. What would you do differently?: If this was an A race, go all out on the swim. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Going in, I decieded to not push the bike too hard since I haven't trained for any sprinting. Had a hard time getting into any rythem. Then we turned straight into the wind. Ugh. Kept my pace but at a greater effort than I really wanted to. Last couple of miles I started to pass a bunch of people so that helped spirts. About half way through the bike, had a guy blow by me on a P3 powered apparently by a Harley. Looked him up...elite tri dude averaged 25+ and won the race but was a last minute entry so he started last in the TT swim! What would you do differently?: Drive the course to see what I am up against. Under-estimated the course. Transition 2
Comments: Got half way out and realized I forgot number. F*&(k. What would you do differently?: Stick my damn number on top of shoes, not underneath. Run
Comments: TOUGH uphill out of T2. .69m long hill to be exact. Could not get legs moving at the pace I wanted. Finally leveled out and got legs moving but a little too late to post a good number. Pushed the downhill finish at 100% and logged a really good split for mile 3. What would you do differently?: Practice sprint speed bricks. Post race
Warm down: Wondered around picking up snacks for the ride home. Was here solo so didn't stay long before I headed back to the car for the two hour drive home. Got home, had a beer, and went back out for a 25m ride to make the training plan happy. Topped the afternoon off with too many $2 Coronas! What limited your ability to perform faster: Wasn't in training for a sprint. This is a two week pre-HIM tuneup race and wetsuit practive. Event comments: Really enjoyed this race. Water was clear. Bike was short but challenging (minus the hillbillies that decieded it was a good idea to drive 20mph down the road where cyclists were going 20+mph and having to pass them on double yellows). Everything in thier control was top notch. Would do this race again (but maybe camp the night before). This was a great tuneup for White Lake HIM in two weeks. Last updated: 2010-03-31 12:00 AM
