Overall Rank = 432/1596
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 62/189
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel and a power bar. Drank some Gatorade, maybe too much as I had to go to the bathroom about five times waiting for the start. It was raining so hard that everything got so wet that it didn't really matter. Comically cheerful attitude among the competitors pre-race.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred yards to get loose. I was fairly nervous as this was my first triathlon in over 10 years and first at this distance.
Swim
  • 23m 46s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was pretty happy with the swim. Next time I would line up closer to the front of the field. But I didn't really know what to expect. Felt good though. Maybe should have stopped here while I was ahead.
What would you do differently?:

Get a wetsuit that fits. Now I know what size I am. Glad I didn't buy first.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Slingshotted my timing chip with my wetsuit. I would try and avoid doing that next time.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to open cycling shoes, would have saved a little time.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 39s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 17.85 mile/hr
Comments:

Glad I didn't crash or see anyone else crash, it was a little dicey out there.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely my area to work on. Really lacking cycling experience, so hope to cut some time off here in the future.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Pretty conservative dismount, kind of a good thing because anything more and I would have fallen over. My legs were not ready for that.
What would you do differently?:

Practice.
Run
  • 50m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't get to train for the run as I had a stress related foot injury for the previous two months. And not sure if weak or tired legs contributed, but I rolled my ankle and went down pretty hard at mile 4. Not sure I would have gotten back up, but thanks to a fellow runner, who stopped and picked me up. That was awesome. I looked at the end to say thank you but good couldn't find him. It meant a lot though. I gimped to the end and finished, very happy.

The crowd support was awesome.
Post race
Warm down:

A trip to the emergency room! Foot not broken, but pretty ugly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more time on the bike and consistent running.

Event comments:

I had a great experience. Looking forward to next year!
