Swim
Comments: This was really bad. I started out pretty slow for the first section but decided to try and pick up the pace. I got hit by a few waves on my way to the first buoy and that was it. I couldn't calm back down and get my face back in the water. I had to stop twice on the way around and even took off my goggles because they fogged up. What would you do differently?: Start slow, remain calm. I know I can swim in the water now because I have done it for more practice. Transition 1
Comments: The water really made it hard to go through T1. I couldn't feel anything so putting on arm warmers and my helmet took forever! The ground was also very rocky and hurt a lot to run on. Glad I had my shoes to put on right away. What would you do differently?: Have warmer water? Not get flustered. Bike
Comments: This was not a fun course to do. The hills and wind really made this seem to drag on forever. What would you do differently?: When I finally got the tailwind on the way out I didn't push it. I tried to save myself for the way back. Next time I plan to use that to my benefit. Transition 2
Comments: Still couldn't feel my hands for this transition. I couldn't unhook my racebelt or take off my shoes. This was just frustrating for me. What would you do differently?: Maybe pump my hands a little on the way back in on the bike to warm them up? Run
Comments: I couldn't feel my feet for the run. I also didn't have my garmin telling me my pace for the run so I didn't know how slow I was going. It was nice to finally have caught up with a lot of people so that I wasn't alone like I was at the start of the bike. What would you do differently?: Practice more in run shoes. I had a few blisters at the end. Do a few bricks right after a brutal bike ride. Post race
Warm down: I was cold.....I don't remember what else happened. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather and preparing for the weather. I think I tried to give myself an excuse of my time because of the weather instead of fighting through it. Did I mention the weather sucked? Event comments: A lot of the reason this race sucked for me is because I just wasn't prepared for this type of weather. All my races so far have been nice weather so it was kind of a wake up call for me. Last updated: 2010-04-01 12:00 AM

I spent a lot of time for this race worrying about the temperatures and how my body would perform. There was so much time between when I was watching the start to when I actually took off that I really wasn't ready to race at all.
I didn't do much warmup until about ten minutes before my wave and I realized just how cold the water was. I hadn't practiced OWS at all this year so I wasn't ready for the cold.
