Swim
Comments: Yikes! first triathlon and no ows practice; I don't recommend following that plan! Went out too fast, couldn't get into a groove, started breathing every stroke and siting every stroke! no technique at all. Horrible swim. What would you do differently?: get some ows practice, try to pace self properly, get into groove and actively work on technique. Transition 1
Comments: after swim there was a .2 mile run back to t1; rough pavement, so bike shoes and little towel left near swim finish - great idea, but was so gassed after swim had trouble getting feet dry enough for shoes (had to sit down b/c I was light headed); run to t1 was fine. At t1, had trouble getting my stuff together, had to take helmet off once to put shirt on and fumbled with garmin. What would you do differently?: relax, think clearly. Bike
Comments: felt ok with the bike, but the first bit of it I was still under the stress of the swim, including being really disappointed with the swim and it probably affected me a bit. o/w considering the lack of saddle time and the age of the bike, i did pretty well. What would you do differently?: get swim out of my mind, get more saddle time. Transition 2
Comments: only problem with this transition was guy next to me came in right ahead of me and took some of my rack spot so our bikes entangled a bit; took extra time to straighten it out. also, took a bit too much time putting on garmin. What would you do differently?: try to have a rack mate who's not a hog! Run
Comments: good run. What would you do differently?: nothing really. Post race
Warm down: just walking around the post race tents, drinking water, eating banana and 1/2 bagel. What limited your ability to perform faster: not practing ows and messing up transitions - especially t1 Event comments: first tri, so don't really know how it stacks up Last updated: 2010-04-03 12:00 AM

up at 4:30, peanut butter on english muffin, walk the dog, head out. set up transition area and go get marked. walk to swim start - was going to do a little run, but transition area was closing too soon (didn't realize that even happened). while waiting at start hear my number being called saying i was missing a handle bar plug! ran back to transition/finish area to find out for sure, then found the bike people, got plug, run to bike hoping it fit (it did) and just made it out before area closed. ran back to start and waited for wave.
running around getting the bike legal.
