Pre-race routine:

Y and I were up at 5:00am to hear the rain. Weatherman not even close to being. R-stop out of the way, don't know about Y that is her business. Ron showed up to hang with Will. Kara called and asked us to meet us there she was to nervous to head over to transition by herself. So we drove around the lot till we found her. Parked and we walked over together. It was good for Y to have more company then me. No sign of my student so had to have some else do it write all over me. Got our bikes set. Not even close to each other.
Met up with the sexy chicks, oh wait I was with them, no the relay "Sexy Chicks" Hung out with the girls, husbands, mothers and friends. Got coffee with Mark, talked to Mike (not a Marmadaddy), said good morning to RL, found notarnr, Pretty social event for a TRI.
Watched the waves go out watch them pull a swimmer out. Fast work by the crew.
Finally I said good luck to a Y and the girls. I was first out of the crew. Zipped up and got into the groove. Got into the water with only being counted once. Hit the water and get some short sprints to warm up. Yep water still 63 degrees.
.
Event warmup:

Few short sprints. Peed in my wetsuit. At least I waited till I got wet.

Comments:

Hit is hard. I like being first int he wave out of the water. Not to be today. I was dead on for sighting. I knew no one was in front to the left but didn't look right since I figured I'd see at the tun. Just as I got to the buoy I had company on the right. Cut close on both buoys but he moved ahead on the return leg. Turned out to be Curt Eggars, he has beat be fore and beat me today. Need to work on more endurance. As we got closer to shore we ran into walkers. My goal was to show them swimming is faster. Was second out for wave. I knew that because I the lady on the shore was screaming to the counter the second pink cap the second pink cap. Ran well on gravel path. Except stepped in mud puddle and got a bunch of mud between my toes. Ick. Had to try to wipe it off on the grass like dog poop on my sneaker. Dropped my goggled on the run and had to turn and get them.

What would you do differently?:

Train my long sprints. Maybe kick, ba it is overrated.
Transition 1

Comments:

Got the left leg out well. Needed to follow the plan. Just step and pull. Shoes on fine, put glasses on, nothing but blur. Bite the bow to deal with later. I and running on cleats, no clip clop. Get the line, mount no problem. Stick glasses on and still nothing.
What would you do differently?:

Cat crap the glasses. I have come a long way since I first started doing this with socks, gloves and dry off. I stood there for a second thinking there has to be more but no I'm ready to go. Still got some practice to get through faster.

Comments:

Wet. Got up to speed and tried the glasses on blur. Not sure what to do with them now. I can see fairly well without them. So cross the bows and bite them. Must of looked a little funny eating my glasses. Get up first hill and to a mile flat or so. I put them on and leave low on my nose peeking through the top and the helmet. Its raining so glasses never clear. Its working and keeps my head down.
The seven minute waves makes for a more wide open bike course. First 3-4 miles is up hill. Fat doesn't roll up hill well so I have to really huff it up them but pass a few. Get passed by one in AG so maybe I'm third. I keep pushing it hard. At the top is Evy's house she said she would be out to cheer me one. No Evy out so I screaming Evvvvvvvvvvvvyyyyyyyy.......... no go. The guy in front of me took a look behind like WTF is up.

Hit the down hill portion of the course. The rain is still coming down. On the big hill I hold pedals at 3-9 for 1/2 mile. By the time I hit the bottom my left shoe was an aquarium. Drains out not sweat. Can't take advantage of the hills fully. Drink here and then. Lake shore drive sucked as we have to hold left next to curb trough the mud puddles.
Hit dismount line.

What would you do differently?:

Lie about my age group.

I thought I was moving along but slow I was.
What would you do differently?:

Tip the guy's bike over that racked in my spot.

Comments:

Oh the run. Fat guys really just jog. Pretend Mike is chasing me. Its feeling good really. Getting some cheers here and there, nice that hlps. I even passed a couple peoples. We ran the course Wednesday and then again Friday. Not much talk on the course. Volunteers are cheering well. Pass Ed twice, he is moving well for doing a marathon last week. I'm just pushing thinking Mike says you can do any for a mile, just need to string 3 of those together. Passed by one in my AG and he is moving. Oh well I'm feeling good. Should still be up there. Hit the finish line, cut chip, grab water and head to transition to see where Y and gang are. Heather is half way done with run. Kara is in T2, Y is still on bike. Catch up with Sue, Y sherpa. Talk to Julie and the girls a little. M&M are doing the kids tri.
What would you do differently?:

Buy some magic shoes.
Post race
Warm down:

Heather is half way done with run. Kara is in T2, Y is still on bike. Catch up with Sue, Y sherpa. Talk to Julie and the girls a little. M&M are doing the kids tri. I watch bike in, every five minute someone takes a fall dismounting. After 3 falls Y heads on in. Drops her sunglasses. I get them and me her at her spot. She is looking good and does well at this transition is off. Scoot the hill and catch coming around to lagoon. Wiat till she is out of lagoon. She is doing OK. Head to finish line. Sue is doing a good job as she is already there. Yahooo she is hitting the finishing stretch. She is being cheered in well by the girls, Ed, Mrs Rebeca's mom as I see her wave here and there. She crosses the line and tell me she is going to punch me hard. Yep she is hooked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Genetics and ice cream.

Event comments:

Y did great physically and mentally running her race. First pic Y and I next is the training gang Heather, Rebecca and Lindsey. Waiting for a picture of Kara.
