Run
Comments: This is my second race since the Chicago marathon I did in 2000 and am pretty happy with the results especially coming out of a bad month with injured calves. Since i haven't run all that much lately I couldn't keep track of my pace well. The first mile clock read 7:20 and my goal pace was 8:00 - 8:10 so I had to slow it down. The next clock was at the 5 mile mark and that read 39:00 (I didn't wear a watch). I kept up the pace until about 7.5-8 miles in and legs started feeling like lead and shoulders started to hurt so I slowed down to about 8:45, I think. I finished the last couple miles very slowly, but nevertheless, I finished and I had fun! What would you do differently?: I would do some more runs that focus on race pace so I can get a feel for it and not go out so fast. Maybe I should get a Garmin watch or something to help with that :) Post race
Warm down: Walk! And stretch, of course. What limited your ability to perform faster: Only ran about 25 miles total in march. I made it up to an 11 mile long run, which I suppose to do another plus a twelve miler, but was unable to because of injured calves, which I actually had to go to physical therapy for. Event comments: I say just right even though the course was very hilly and I've never really done hill work before, but I actually enjoyed it, as hard as it was. I would like to do it again next year. Last updated: 2010-04-03 12:00 AM
