Pre-race routine:

Woke up in plenty of time, had a couple sips of coffee to wake up and a little bite to eat and headed to Tempe to meet my friends.
Event warmup:

No warm up.
Swim
  • 49m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 03m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm a poor swimmer. I knew that going in. I was rushed getting into the water b/c I was standing by the lady holding the wave sign and she then said I should be in the water! Yikes. I was then shocked again to see I was the only woman in the wave. I was the only person racing athena in this OLY race.

I started off smooth and steady. No panic, no freak out. This was big for me. My sighting seemed ok for the first half. I was sighting off the buildings. I got a little off course coming back but I know I was zig zagging quite a bit. I felt all of the other waves pass me but I tried not to get discouraged. I knew I would be one of the last people to get out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

I need a serious swim coach and a swim assessment. This is getting embarrassing! 50 minutes in the water would wear out anyone.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

This was a little slow. I got my watch stuck on my wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Place my watch under my suit.
Bike
  • 1h 30m 33s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.47 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought my bike was just average. I wanted to keep it around 16mph. I did that but much room for improvement.
What would you do differently?:

Need more training. Need to lose weight.
Transition 2
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

I should have done a better job at getting my tennis shoes ready. I had to untie them, sit down and put them on. Wasted time.
What would you do differently?:

Plan my transition better.
Run
  • 1h 14m 46s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

First loop was average. I felt well hydrated. The second loop, I started to get very hot. I ended up walking and running.
What would you do differently?:

More training. Lose weight.
Post race
Warm down:

My Bro-in-law was waiting for me at the finish line. It was nice to see a friendly face. Most of the athletes had packed up and left. My other tri buddy found us too and we all debriefed. I'm glad I did the race but it put the fear in me. I have so much work to do before my IM!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight, need a better training base, swim.

Event comments:

Pros: (1) I got the right size shirt (2) I like the wet sponges
Cons: (1) They had my registration wrong (2) I didn't get a swag bag (3) wave starts were not very organized
