Swim
Comments: Gun went off and ran into the water... a lot of people started swimming but I kept running. At this point, within 200 yds I realized my legs were still sore from the week of training. I started to dolphin dive a bit and could not get my heart rate to drop so I started swimming with my face above water. I realized I wasn't making much progress so I told myself to put my face down and just relax and that is what I did until I could put my feet down and run and dolphin dive again. Started on the second loop and settled in well and climbed out of the water. My watch was somewhere around 8 minutes. Started running up the sand beach to the transition area before crossing the mat. What would you do differently?: I need to get in an OWS before the first event of the season. I am glad I calmed down well, but I don't need to panic. Transition 1
Comments: Ran over and started with the socks and shoes, then put on the helmet and put the GU in my pocket... grabbed my bike and got going What would you do differently?: Socks were crazy hard to get on... glasses were fogging... should have been faster! Bike
Comments: Started out nice and smooth with the rain and then kept pushing at an even pace. Some people would pass me, I would pass others. Took gatorade every 5 miles. Had someone around mile 20 tell me they had been trying to catch me for a while. Took a GU around mile 20. Was hitting speeds around 20-22 mph on the flats on the way back. Was fun to join back in with the sprint distance because then I was cheering them on. Started around 27 miles getting myself mentally ready for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much... I was .6 mph faster this year than in 2008... I had a great ride, was nice and smooth, nutrition was spot on. Great great ride! Transition 2
Comments: Had to tie my shoes which took too long but grabbed all my stuff and started running with it and put it on as I went along What would you do differently?: Not much... pretty good transition... not have to tie shoes maybe Run
Comments: Started out with my MP3, saw all my peeps and then just started settling into a rhythm. I had to walk every 4 to 7 minutes because my legs were just getting too tired. I did the math several times and the numbers showed I could come in under 3 hours according to my watch. I was getting passed by some but keeping my place most of the time. I pushed it in hard and crossed the line leaving everything I could out there. What would you do differently?: Not much... I left as much of me out on that course as I could. Towards the end, my legs were ready to give. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a bit, got some water and caught my breath. Talked to my parents, Sue and Joan and later on Paul and then headed out when I started getting cold. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sore legs... I did a harder run early last week and my legs were so very sore still today :( Event comments: I am very confused as to the times... my watch time said 2:58:01 and my official chip time says 3:01:02. I was in wave three. I wish I could explain it!!! Overall, I set a new PR with the chip time by over 6 minutes and a watch PR time by almost 10 minutes!! Last updated: 2010-04-04 12:00 AM

Got up around 4:30 am, did some stuff around the house, had a soda, and we were out the door around 5:45 am so that hopefully parking wouldn't be crazy. Got there, parked, walked the .5 mile to transition, got marked and got my chip, then went to go set up transition. It started to rain lightly around this time, stood in line for the port-o-potties, found my parents again and met up with Sue and Joan, my other racing friends. Then we all headed down to the water.
The .5 mile walk around the loop was the warm up and so was the walking around the transition area and into the water. Headed over to the start and ran into Paul, my photographer friend, talked with him for a few minutes before going over to line up and wait for my turn.
