Pre-race routine:

Get kids ready and get out of the hotel. Set up in the transition area was a complete mess. The organizers created bike racks from PVC piping. However, they weren't sufficiently braced, so a number of the rows collapsed, leading to fallen bikes. I found a spot to lay down my bike. However, with space becoming a premium, there wasn't sufficient area to really set up.
Event warmup:

Rush around getting numbered, chipped, set up. Didn't think to warm up before I hit the water.
Swim
  • 09m 4s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were some big train wrecks in the water.
What would you do differently?:

The swim start is seeded based upon reported, expected finishing time. I mis-timed by about two and a half minutes. Next year, I'll report a faster (and more appropriate) speed so I'm not needing to pass as much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
What would you do differently?:

Have better set up area and better thought process. Tried keeping my shoes on my bike. Major disaster. Just going to put bike shoes on in T1.
Bike
  • 44m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.20 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Go faster! Ride more hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

This transition was awful. Can't say much more.
What would you do differently?:

Everything.
Run
  • 20m 10s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't cramp this time! So, that's the good news. Walked about 30 yards of it up the steep hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not walk at all. Just keep doing bricks and this will get better. I really thought I ran faster than that, even with the walking.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around looking for my peeps.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm happy with my training so far this year. My worst spots were transitions. On to the next one . . .

Event comments:

This race would've rated better, except that the transition area was a complete mess.
