Total Time = 1h 03m 15s
Overall Rank = 2/468
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/39
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 am. Got enough sleep. Nutella/PB toast, banana, soy/chai.
Event warmup:

2 mile run with dynamic stretching
Swim
  • 07m 26s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

Short swim so I took it out quick and settled into a moderate tempo. Minor problems getting around previous wave but made it through unscathed.
What would you do differently?:

Enter open division maybe?
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Felt faster than 1:21 but oh well. Had to jog out and then down some stairs to my bike. Was at the back of transition because we were told when we got there that it would be a "one-way" clockwise transition. I figured I would split the diff on running with the bike. Turned out where I had my bike originally would have been the best. Lost some time here, but I'll get over it. Grrr.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know, they changed the rules for the transition area 20 mins prior closing transition. Only uncool thing that happened that morning.
Bike
  • 34m 26s
  • 14 miles
  • 24.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Ride of my life! Had borrowed a wheelset from a buddy and my bike had gotten so much faster. I was ready to tear it up and things worked out. Couple gear changing problems but nothing major.
What would you do differently?:

Enjoy the moment more?
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Well if I had stayed in my original racking position I would have been in prime real estate, but I had to jog my bike down further. Still a good T2.
Run
  • 19m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Thought the run could have been better. Wanted to hold under 6:30 pace but I kept slowing into the low 7's. Knew my time would be fast because the leg is a little shorter than 3 miles. I didn't get passed, although I knew Brian Wade was screaming around the lake behind me at 5:47 pace. Legs felt tight until about half way when I started bringing my pace down. The overall race was lost here for sure as T.W. in the open division beat me by 35 sec.
What would you do differently?:

Longer tempo runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran the loop backwards. Stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat, humidity

Event comments:

Still love this race. Super organized although the transition area decision at race time disappointed and surprised me. Great to win my AG and I know a few of the big dogs from years past were not there, but I would still like to win this race someday.
