Swim
Comments: Started the swim off great and passed the woman in front of me fairly quickly. Almost didn't make it into the next lane on one turn, could have been bad. Also, this one poor guy was horribly mis-seeded and started at the beginning and swam side stroke the whole way. Overall, swam well, pace felt great! What would you do differently?: Submit a bit faster of the time so I didn't have to worry about catching the person in front of me. Transition 1
Comments: Transition went very well and fast. Rolling up shirt to put on was a great idea and I should keep that in mind if I have another cold race. What would you do differently?: Get to the race earlier and get a better rack spot. Also practice running bike mount. Bike
Comments: This was a tough course. I think I rode it well with the exception of the corner at the bottom of the downhill, I was afraid to take it too fast. Also, since the course was either uphill, downhill or turning, it was difficult to find a good spot to drink and I did not drink enough water What would you do differently?: Drink more water, practice cornering at high speed. Transition 2
Comments: I hadn't practiced my dismount this year, so I came to a complete stop and jumped off. Still took shoes off prior to line and left in pedals. Also, had to turn bike around to rack because it was falling over when I racked it front wheel first. What would you do differently?: Practice bike dismount while moving and get speed laces Run
Comments: Ouch. My legs barely loosened up in time for the uphill on the other side of the creek. I was in 3rd place until about a 1/4 mile after the turn around. I ran without socks which was fine. I also had just enough juice in the tank to make it up the hill to the finish line. I did have a side cramp for a bit, probably due to not drinking enough water on the bike. What would you do differently?: Um... drink more on the bike, practice running faster, this is definitely my weakest event. Post race
Warm down: Walk around after standing next to the trash can feeling like I was going to vomit for a bit. Then going back to Death Hill to cheer on my friend as she finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: A) Not drinking enough on the bike B) Distance training doesn't focus on fast running, therefore I'm a slow runner. C) Not being comfortable taking corners at full speed. Event comments: The race started 30 minutes late and was pretty disorganized. There also was no water or food at the finish line when I finished. But since it's a school fundraiser, it's to be expected. Still had a blast and a great race to start off a season with. Half bagel with cream cheese and half banana. Once at the race, checked in, got body marked and set up transition. Horrible rack spot, and very tight, but it worked.
A couple laps in the pool and stretching before the race
