Total Time = 2h 03m 13s
Overall Rank = 259/338
Age Group = Female 60 & Up
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

Drove down early - don't know why I go early because at my level I don't need a good rack position and just end up racking in the middle somewhere anyhow. But can't sleep in anyway and it's fun to run into acquaintances.
Event warmup:

Zip. I did get in a little trouble when I went over to cheer the lead swimmers coming in - I had my chip on and I got too close to the timing mat and they were yelling at me to "Get away! Get away!"
Swim
  • 20m 10s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in the 7th wave - last. I did my usual count to 5 after the wave start before I started. Last year I was pretty much alone out there at the back - maybe a couple others. I knew I was doing better this year because there were a bunch with me the whole way. It was a little choppy on the way back and the sun made it hard to sight but not too bad. My time was 3 1/2 minutes faster than last year due to 1) I'm a better swimmer, 2) I now wear a wetsuit, 3) I swam straight and took the buoys sharp.
What would you do differently?:

I was happy with my time - getting better
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

Typically bad - however, my T1 time was the same as last year and this year I had to take off the wetsuit.
Bike
  • 59m 56s
  • 17.3 miles
  • 17.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I had checked the forecast and was worried about the wind but it actually wasn't too bad - mostly crosswind. Bad headwind for about 1 1/2 mile when turning off Pine Beach Road. I had expected that because I knew the wind was from the South (14-21 S). Last year I pretty much had the bike course to myself because I was so far back. This year I passed about a dozen people right away and then traded passing with others later. Finished 5 1/2 minutes faster than last year - even with the wind
What would you do differently?:

Need to ride more and work on bike handling skills
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Typically bad - but still 45 sec faster than last year
Run
  • 37m 31s
  • 3.9 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

It was very hot and I had to take some walk breaks toward the end. Time was about the same as last year - tiny bit faster
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped in lake and changed.
Stayed for awards.
Husband showed up and took some pics
1st place age group medal was really pretty this year, I thought
Announcer stopped awards to have everyone cheer the 80 yr old man coming in - it was very moving
I'M SURE I HEARD THEM SAY THAT PINE BEACH ROAD WILL BE PAVED NEXT YEAR _ WHOOP! WHOOP!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I keep getting better so just keep working on it - I have a list of improvements I need to work on. Race time was over 10 minutes faster than last year

Event comments:

I'll give this race a 5 when they pave Pine Beach Road
