Swim
Comments: Seconds apart from last year. Felt better though. Less disoriented and able to run to my bike better. Kept a constant pace and breathing was good. Hugged the buoys tight. Seemed to drift a but so had to sight often. New googles were great. What would you do differently?: Definitely need more time and maybe a swimming camp to improve my technique. Transition 1
Comments: Got on my bike and noticed my right shifter on my handlebar was bent in. Must have happened when they loaded it onto the truck. Took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on and get going. Not as fast out of the gate as last year. What would you do differently?: Double check my bike before I rack it. Also, not wear a damp shirt. I think it would hurt my skin evaporation later on. Bike
Comments: Definitely the strongest of the 3 events but I could still have done better. I wasn't keeping the same pace as in workouts. The swim definitely took something out of me. For once I didn't have to pee but that was the sign of something else. I was getting seriously dehydrated and not realising it. Thought I was ok. Fewer opportunities to hydrate on this course. What would you do differently?: I should have brought a camel back. I needed more fluid in me. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. Saw Mae Palm in the transition getting her runners on. Run
Comments: Right back where I started. Any gains I made on the bike I lost in the run. 1/2 way through the run I started getting chills and had difficulty catching my breath. I ran through all the aid stations and did not drink enough. I felt weird and weak. I was just shuffling along. What would you do differently?: I was very disappointed. I was hoping all the running I had been doing would pay off. I don't think it was the lack of training but more the physiological lack of fluids. Post race
Warm down: My daughter was there with friends so we got my stuff and tried to hang out for some of the awards. It was really hot in the sun so we found some shade. I was really starting to feel ill. I remembered my daugter's birthday party engagement so we packed up and headed off. My friends were great. What limited your ability to perform faster: I got home and felt really bad. Soaked in the tub for a bit and then went to lay down. My tummy was cramping and I felt like I was going to throw up. Lesson to be learned here I think. My swimming was the same because I didn't really train but jusy maintained. My running sucked for two reasons. Not enough bricks and not enough fluids. My biking was the only area of improvement and that's because I have been riding more then anything else lately. Event comments: I love this event and I so wanted to do better this year. I need to train my body to get used to longer workouts and figure out my hydration better. My to do list is long. I felt so bad at the end I was seriously wondering if I'm cut out for these kind of activities. I was NOT having fun on the run. I'm just not sure if I'm getting a good return on my investment in time for such meager results. If I had not bonked so bad it would have been nice to see a greater improvement. Yeah, I'm pretty unhappy about the whole thing right now. Last updated: 2005-12-29 12:00 AM

Was up late a bit because my son kept getting up and wandering around. Not the greatest sleep. Woke up at 5:30 am and had pb and jam. Sip of coffee and then decided against it. Drank about 12 oz of water before race. Apparently NOT ENOUGH!
Was at the race nice and early with about 1hr15 min at the beach to chat with friends. Got the wetsuit on and it felt much better today - a little more stretched out in the right spots. Was nervous when I got up but I was calming down substantially. The moment of silence for Bob McInstosh was deafening. All we could hear were the birds. Very cool.
