Pre-race routine:

I am still dialing in my routine. This was my second race ever, my first was a sprint in mid June. Luckily we decided to stay in a hotel nearby asnthe two hour drive would have been a bit much.

2 packets of instant oatmeal (300 cal) about two hours before the race. Transition setup. Walked through th race ins a nd outs.

Wetsuits were allowed but if worn one would not be eligible to win awards. Since I haven't swam the distance without it nor am I a strong swimmer, i wore mine.
Event warmup:

Swimming about fifty yards or so.
Swim
  • 33m 51s
  • 1584 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

The course was well marked with four minutes in between waves. Started in between to little buoys the off. I was able to see the bottom for most of the course. There were not a lot kayaks on the back side/furthest out points, very surprising.

Small run on the beach until the transition zone. Very few pebbles.
What would you do differently?:

Sighting. I was way off course on the backside, practically at the other shoreline. I know I lost time here at least a min ute maybe two.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

I was able to easily find my bike in the racks. Suit off the glasses/helmet on, then shoes and number belt. My rack was the furthest from the bike out, ut closet to the bike in. I ran with my bike.

My time might be slow compared to the top AGers, but I improved. Y forty sends from my first tri
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting into my cleats quickly. More body glide on my ankles. Swim more without my wetsuit.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 23s
  • 24.4 miles
  • 18.44 mile/hr
Comments:

My left hamstring still hurts a lot, I think my seat might be a tad high. Pain pedaling while in the flatter sections.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Run
  • 55m 17s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I am happy with my run time. I only started running this year and every run I get faster. I had to keep telling myself this as I was getting passed by the people I passed on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Move the timely chip higher on my leg, it got embedded at the top of my shoe and wore in a nice groove
Post race
Event comments:

The post race food was okay. More the non red meat eaters it would have been better if there were more veggie burgers and chicken that was not fired. Water would have been better than soda.

Course: Two loops. The course was changed due to frost heaves, which added on a few miles. The site references one hill that is three quarters long, but off course there are always more. The course was harder then I thought it would be. Lots of false flats and slight upgrades. The downhills are located on choppy pavement, so it is hard to really fly down. Little to no traffic for most of the course. There is one section with heavy traffic making it hard to pass. They did have bike lanes in the town center and cops.
