Swim
Comments: Havoc compared to last year. No one knew what time corresponded to what area in the line(Last year it was labeled). Got in one part of line where people said 9min swim time so I moved up 20 ft in line because I'm faster, asked again and people said 9:30 swim time. I moved up again and that's were I stayed. Ended up getting stuck 3 or 4 times behind groups of slower swimmers. Killed my swim time. I was however still faster then last year, and this is only with one week of swim practice. What would you do differently?: Just find one person with similar swim time, stick with em and draft the whole thing. Mastering flip turns would help too. Transition 1
Comments: First race in which i put on shoes on bike. Went well. Saved time. My helmet and glasses had been knocked off my bike but what can i do about it. What would you do differently?: Jumping mount. Bike
Comments: Too timid on turns. Got a bit caught up in crowds a couple times. Took in some accelerade. Need to do more hill work(made me wish I had a triple crank instead of a double). What would you do differently?: Hit the turns hard. Get out of groups quickly. Get out of saddle more. Transition 2
Comments: First race in which I removed shoes prior to t2. All going well until shoe fell off after dismount. There went that time savings. What would you do differently?: Avoid losing shoe(left shoe's been having trouble so dismount right). Rack bike straight in, don't loop back around. Put some pull taps on run shoes. Put on number belt as Leaving transition, not standing at bike. Run
Comments: Didn't know I still had it in me. Went well. Took in water twice, at about 1 mi and 2.5 mi. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Tank still had a little in it at finish. Post race
Warm down: A slice of pizza then a 2.5 hour ride back to KC. What limited your ability to perform faster: I found my first two gray hairs the night before the race. Doomed me from the start :). Than again it may just be a combination of poor pre-swim placement and inadequate training. Event comments: Great race. Ultramax always does well. Only request would be to put up signs with expected swim times in the pool area like last year to help people with lining up. Last updated: 2010-04-07 12:00 AM

Up at 3:15. Banana and slimfast(odd but worked well). Drove from KC to columbia with one nap break(boom strips ftw). Checked in, set up transition and headed to pool with a gatorade, a water and caffeine. Took caffeine just prior to elite start(about an hour before my start).
None unless standing in line for over an hour counts.
