Swim
Comments: i was a bit ambitious on my swim time, so i ended up being bib#7 and with a few people missing i started 2nd on my side of the pool. i had a good swim though and only got passed by 1 guy. he passed me at the end of the 3rd lap and i drafted off him the final 100 and passed him back on the run to transition. What would you do differently?: nothing. Transition 1
Comments: decent transition. it was a long run all the way down the parking lot and back. Bike
Comments: i came out of transition with 3 people in front of me. i wanted to ride the bike hard so i went pretty much 100% from the start. i caught the first guy fairly quickly, but it took me a full loop to catch the second guy. the second guy was wearing a leopard print speedo for the whole race. awesome! never did catch the leader, but very happy with the bike. Transition 2
Comments: great transition. best in the race. Run
Comments: started pretty fast on the run to try to reel in the leader. he was only 15 years old , but was having a great race. i was able to catch and pass him ~.5 mile into the run, so i settled into a pace as hard as i thought i could sustain. i knew i had the people in front of me beat, but the crappy part about wave and time trial starts is that you don't know about anyone else. it was a tough run, but i felt great and pushed the whole time. it was cool to be at the front and come out of the tunnel in the lead. i crossed the line first and was happy with my time overall whether or not it held up for 1st place. Post race
Warm down: grabbed a water and walked back to cheer on the other racers and see if anyone else was within the time difference. everyone i passed came in outside the time, but 1 guy with a bib in the 30's was able to get under my time. oh well. i think i'd rather cross the line 1st and get 2nd place OA. it was a pretty cool feeling. ernie, z, k, and i waited around for the awards and cheered on everyone coming in. i felt bad for the people that started in the back of the swim line since it wasn't getting any cooler out there. What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing. first tri of the year and very happy with it. Event comments: good local race. they have a great course there. challenging but not impossible. there needed to be more information available prior to the start, but once it was underway everything went very smoothly. it's nice to have a race so close to home. we got up ~5:00am and left ~5:30am. you had to park in the parking lot .5 mile away and ride to the race. i got to use my new transition back pack so it worked out fine.
once there, we set up transition and then hung out with ernie and z. there wasn't a lot of race info at check-in or on the website, so we spent a little while trying to figure out some of the logistics:
wetsuit legal: no
flip-turns: ok
swim start: 2 lines
swim end: outside edges of pool
bib required on bike: yes
