![]() Swim
Comments: 3 to 6 foot surf coupled with brutal riptide and very strong north current. I didnt get into a groove with breathing and glide until I hit the buoy. After that I could have swam a mile! :) What would you do differently?: Need practice on Surf Entry technique. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Long T1 across the beach to three switchbacks going uphill to the Moonlight Beach parking lot (TA). Even though I prepared for it I still could have done better. Too many walkers and strollers clogging the path. Found myself yelling "Hey... I'm racing here"! They did apologize though. I had a malfunction with my right bike shoe insole causing me to take the shoe off and fix it. Had to have cost me at least 25 extra seconds because it would have caused a blister. What would you do differently?: Murphy must have invented the Triathlon Transition... because "anything that can go wrong - will go wrong". I need to start practicing problem scenarios as well as clean transitions. I'm thinking about recruiting my son to set me up some unknown "challenges" for me to respond to when I drill Transitions. ![]() Bike
Comments: I felt strained on the bike... Not sure why because I prepared very well for it and really thought I would do much much better. What would you do differently?: Hills! I need to get better on a sustained attack on Hills! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Even though I drilled and drilled and drilled... I still struggled to get my left shoe on and the overall transition took way to long. What would you do differently?: See answer in T1 ![]() Run
Comments: What can I say... It's my worse event and there is not to much I can do about it. I have an Appt with a Sports Med Doc this week and they are considering perscribing some compression sleeves for my calves to see if it will assist with pain management. What would you do differently?: Embarassingly enough... on Friday I tweaked my R knee on a short trail run at Lake Hodges. I spent Friday and Saturday night in RICE mode and none-the-less 1/4 mile into the run my knee was killing me. What sucks is I was not suppposed to do that run at the Lake because it was a rest day and I thoought I could squeeze it in with no issues. Hard lesson to learn and this could have been alot worse for me. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Talk, laugh, tell war stories and just kick back and enjoy the moment. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being stupid and not following simple directions. My CECS limits my ability, but with that said I am building distance just not speed. If I can add some speed without compromise to my health that would be perfect. Event comments: DO race with new friends from BT Forum. Hanging out with J was friggin awesome! DO NOT forget a wrist watch... cant believe I did that. DO plan for logistics contingencies... The Race Organizers may not always provide what they say they will provide (water, air, mechanics, Beer Garden, etc.) DO NOT deviate from training plans unless it fits your goals and objectives with no potential adverse effects to health, safety or performance.
