Pre-race routine:

Got up late because the volume on my alarm clock was all the way down. We had a guy house sit our dogs a couple of weeks ago. I left the alarm on and he couldn't figure out how to turn it off, so he just turned it down. Obviously I didn't realize that. Stopped at McD's for an Egg McMuffin, which turned out to be a big mistake.

Long run up to T1, as usual for Decker Lake. Tried to take it a little easy to let my HR come down at least a little.

Started slow and stayed that way. I didn't walk, but 9-minute miles for a 5k is pretty sad.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't do anything for over a month prior to this race. It's not surprising that my body wasn't ready for a sprint-level effort. Lack of sleep and other issues also didn't help.
