Swim
Comments: TT start with 10 second gaps between starters. I started in the 53rd position based on my submitted 300m swim time of 5:40. The swim was harder than I though at the start, but I was able to settly down 1/2 way thru the swim. My swim problem is that I really struggle for my first 6 or so laps, but after that I'm fine so swim starts for me will always be a strugghle for a while. My initial intention was just to swim my laps as I would in a regular workout, but since it was a TT start I became more worried about not being caught by the person behind me. Also had some minor issues at the turns since I was used to swimming in a 25 yard pool and not a 25 meter pool. My stroke to reach the wall was off so I was often grabbing the wall with the wrong arm and getting crossed a bit. I don't do flip turns (didn's say can't) as right now they make me dizzy. I actually ended up passing 3 people during the lap swim which I wanted to avoid at all cost, but did so in a smooth fashion (suprised). What would you do differently?: Need to work on a bit more intensity during my swim training. Transition 1
Comments: Garmin T1 time was 0:45 which I hit as soon as I exited the pool. Not sure how the timers were 1:08 cinsidering the timinh maxt was a food 10 sec run from the pool?? T1 went really smooth. Actually faster than I thought.....kind of felt like I was forgetting something. What would you do differently?: nothing. Just need to do it a few more time to get use to the feeling of T1 Bike
Comments: Cycling is my strong point. I started the TT event in 53rd position, passed 3 in the pool and ended the cycling portion comming into the run and counted 14 runners in fron of me (which appears to have included a few runners from the Bi race. So guestimating I passed about 35 racers during the bike portion. What would you do differently?: Not muuch. Short disttannce so took 1/2 bottle of liquid. Should have probbably not gone quite so hard as the first portion of the run really sucked for me, but then again I could have finished Top 10 overall if I went just a bit harder on the bike. Catch 22 Transition 2
Comments: I was racing with regular road shoes with latches. Normally I would just unclip and run with my shoes on, but the day before the race I decided to see if I could loosen my shoe straps and get oput of my shoes leaving them clipped in. Seemd to work so I tried it during the race. Had a hard time getting out of my one shoe but was able (left), couldn't loosen the right enough to get out so I was off the bike with one shoe on and one off. I was able to remove the one shoe quickly and ran to T2. Didn't looks the smoothest, but in the end worked out ok. What would you do differently?: Definately going to buy Tri specific shoes Run
Comments: I'm not a runner, period. Just started teaching myself to run in September. I know I'm not fast but did better than I expected even though the 1st mile of the run was definately much harder than I expected even though I knew it would be tough coming off the bike. I was suprised that I was able to manage a 7:35 pace. I did the run portion just trying to ggaugge how I would feel overall and did not "push" myself beyond my limits. No sprint finish, no super hard efforts during the run. Just wanted to keep and even pace to see how it would feel at my 1st event. What would you do differently?: Not much. Could say I would go harder but want to get a few Tris under my belt first so I can gauge my efforts and how I feel during different portion of a race before I start to really begin pushing hard. Post race
Warm down: Had to leave right away as I had to be home to coach my daughters 2 soccer games. What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience Event comments: This is a great race for those wanting to gget their feet wet doing a tri. Participants ranged from out of shape first timers, to inshape first timers, to Tri Geeks. Last updated: 2010-04-12 12:00 AM

This was my 1st Tri so I rteally didn't have a routine. Just showed up, looked around to see what everyone else was doing. Unfortunately since this was my 1st race I wasn't 100% comfortable using my Garmin 310XT in its Auto MultiSport function. Forgot to hit one button (Enter) - duh. I still was able to track most of my times as well though it was grabbing lap info for every mile from the run function. My Garmin times were quite different from the Event times though.
No warm-up. Walked around a bit. I figured the pool lap portion of the race would be my warmup.
