Total Time = 1h 22m 24s
Overall Rank = 51/157
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Normal pre-race breakfast of 2 packets of raisins and spice oatmeal and a cup of coffee. Got to the race, check in and set up transition.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 14m 40s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out with my traditional open water panic attack, but after Tarzan swimming the first half, I found I was able to put my face down and really swim for the first time in an open water race. So that was a huge breakthrough for me.
What would you do differently?:

At this point I'm really happy that I was able to finish the swim really swimming.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

I had forgotten to get my socks out because of some confusion while setting up transition (the rack actually broke when someone hung their bike on it). So I had to dig out my socks and that of course took some time.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to get my socks ready.
Bike
  • 40m 22s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I discovered that I really didn't have much in me on the smallest little hills, I think I expend too much energy on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Do less flailing around during the swim - when I flip onto my back I have to kick more and I think that costs me legs-wise for the rest of the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

This was pretty uneventful, although it seems like it shouldn't have taken so long.
What would you do differently?:

Just try to move faster.
Run
  • 24m 25s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank a bottle of water while waiting for Peter to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a headcase about the swim causes me to waste a lot of energy.

Event comments:

I was really impressed with the level of organization of this race especially considering that its only in its second year. There were a ton of volunteers and they were great. Very well done.
