Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:40 a.m. Gathered my things. Ate some oatmeal. Drove 100 miles. Arrived at 7:15.
Check in was smooth. All race officials and staff were volunteers.
Set up transition area and then hung out until pre-race meeting at 8:30.
Event warmup:

I went for a quick 5 minute ride around a key point in the bike course.
At 8:20 I went for a quick 1/2 mile jog to loosen up the joints and then stretched during the pre-race meeting.

Comments:

I loved this ride. It was a lot of fun.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I didn't miss the turn. There were volunteers posted to tell you where to turn. The guy at this particular turn was chatting with a motorist and forgot to point me in correct direction. I rode by saying "WHOA! Was I supposed to turn there!?" To which he replied "Oh ye!" Haha.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

My Dad said I flew through this transition.
What would you do differently?:

I got a little fumbled with my lace locks.

Comments:

I'm not displeased with my run time...
What would you do differently?:

...But I definitely need to work on my running. It's certainly a weak discipline. I remember my dad trying to pay me in high school to run and I turned it down! :D
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt dehydrated going into the race. My mouth was already dry 2 miles into the bike. I need to hydrate more before the race. I need to run more.

Event comments:

There's a reason that this was the 24th annual race. It's a lot of fun and well organized.

Course: We did a 15 second seeded time trial start. It was actually a lot of fun to begin in this manner. The first 1/4 mile was right along the beach. It was beautiful. Next it went into a wooded area with a short climb. The bike was mostly an out and back course with some rolling hills. There was a heavy head wind that brought us down in speed for the first half but we were pushing fast at times on the way back.
