Pre-race routine:

Woke up early like every time I have a race. No alarm needed for those days ;) Grabbed a couple of coffee and 2 toast with a banana and a yogurt. Then I just chilled around until we were ready to leave for the race.
Event warmup:

I ran around for almost 2km, with 3 or 4 strides to get the legs moving before the race.

Comments:

My plan was to stick with Alex, we were planning to run it at a 4:20/km pace (6:49/M) For the first 2.5km or so everything went as planned, but close to the turn around I let him take a 10 sec advance on me, and I am still not too sure how it happened. Then at the 3km mark I saw a baby hat on the ground, it was Alex's baby's hat. He was running with his stroller with his oldest daughter in it.

I stopped to grab the hat since Alex didn't see that his daughter dropped it. I then yelled at him that I had it and not to worry about it. For the last 2km I just pushed as hard as I could to keep Alex in sight. Except for the 3km I was under my goal pace, I guess that stopping to grab the hat cost me 5sec or so which killed my pace for that km.

I am happy overall with my result, a PR by 22 sec is not huge but at the beginning of the season like that I will take it :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much, training more and hoping that Juliette doesn't drop her hat ;)
Post race
Warm down:

After I finished I ran back to meet my wife who was doing the 5km also and I ran back in with her.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough interval training during the winter, to be honest I only did one interval training and it was last week so no way I could be really fast. Also losing some lbs wouldn't hurt. I am still 5 lbs over my usual running weight and I guess it doesn't help.

Event comments:

I liked this race, it was the first edition and for a 15$ race I would go back there every week end honestly :) They had a ton of volunteer and they were all really friendly.

Once again I missed the podium, not much I can do but train more. The guy who finished third was 26 seconds faster than me, this is not huge but it is still 5 sec faster per km ;)
