![]() Swim
Comments: I new I was a pretty good swimmer, but did not know how I would stack up so I started in the middle of the pack. This was my first open water swim so navigation def could have been better. I did not push it because I didn't know how my body would handle the rest of the course. Felt weird out of the water, a dazed feeling. What would you do differently?: Start in the front of the pack. It took me way to long to get around people that were slower than me. Also, I could have easily pushed it harder, but I wanted to play it safe being my first race. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Was a long run from the beach, under the bride and over to the transition. Took my time getting changed, putting socks on, etc. What would you do differently?: Maybe move a little quicker. ![]() Bike
Comments: Took me a while to get up to speed, and kind of just cruised around the course. This was my PB MPH but still feel like I could have gone way faster. Got passed by so many people, due to my AG starting 2nd wave and having a good swim. People are just better at cycling than I am right now. What would you do differently?: Push myself harder and get areo bars. Do more street rides, less than 10 total street rides so far for me. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: This transition was a lot easier because I was running in the same gear I was riding in. All I had to do was stroll in, change shoes, eat a gel, and take off. What would you do differently?: Not really anything. ![]() Run
Comments: My legs felt great the whole run, but I was really tired and had a terrible pace. Once I hit the sand on the bayside I started to get passed by even more people. On a positive I only stopped once and that was for about 5 seconds at an aid station to have a course worker throw some water on me. What would you do differently?: Do more bike/run bricks and just run more in general. During my training my stand alone run times, even up to 10 miles, is around 8 mins 30 secs. I would like my race time to be closer to that. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Went home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being my first Tri I think that just more training will lead to better results. Event comments: Race was really fun. I only had 8 real weeks of tri training before this and was happy I chose this race for a "check" on my progress. I am doing Vineman 70.3 in July and this race gave me the confidence that I need to continue. Going to kick up the intensity of my workouts until Vineman. Last updated: 2010-04-14 12:00 AM

My grandma lives in La Jolla so my dad, mom, and myself drove up to stay at her house on Saturday night before the race. Woke up around 5:15am, had a bowl of oatmeal and headed out to the course. When we got there around 6:30am the parking lot was already full so we had to trek to find a spot.Being my first triathlon I pretty much just copied what everyone else had set up in the transition.
Walked over to the bayside where the seal swim would start. Tried to figure out where the heck I was going to be swiming and than did a quick dip in the water to get my (rented) suit wet.
