Swim
Comments: Canceled due to high winds Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike. Pushed harder than two weeks ago at Gateway to the Bay and it showed. With the crosswind slightly at our back I held 24-26mph on the way out to the turnaround but then obviously had to deal with the same wind coming back. Would have rather had it the other way around but that's racing. They had just repaved a big chunk of the highway so it was nice and smooth for a large percentage of the ride. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: Decent but could have gone faster. There was a traffic jam coming into the bike off and into transition. I trotted behind a couple women most of teh way back to my row. I should have gone around them but wasn't in race mode mentally after the swim was canceled. What would you do differently?: Run faster with the bike. Try harder. Run
Comments: I had trouble pacing myself and just never could get in a groove. This is my weakest event for sure. What would you do differently?: Train harder for the run. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water, drank a coke then had a piece of pizza and two beers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lungs Event comments: Nice event, not their fault the weather caused problems. I'll do this race next year though I may try for the 1/2. Last updated: 2010-04-14 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30 took a quick shower and made my standard 2 big pancakes with 1,000 calories of syrup. I had already packed the car so I grabbed a banana, 3 Gatorades and a coke for the road. Left about 5:30 and it took an hour to get there from Sugar Land but found parking without a problem. Because of the rain I decided to wait on setting all of my stuff out. It only takes me 5min tops and I had an hour and a half until the transition closed for the Oly anyway. Went to watch the sprint start and that's when everything went south. The wind started blowing really, really hard from the north to the point it was dragging the big blowup buoys they had marking the course. If not for the fact the course kept getting shorter and shorter because the buoys kept dragging towards shore I think they might have gone with the start. In addition, it was getting really choppy which didn't really bother me but I can understand the safety concern for some of the newer sprint athletes who aren't strong swimmers. So they canceled the swim which really bummed me out because of the three events I typically do relatively better in my bracket with the swim and then watch everyone slowly pass me on the bike and run. I really need to consider getting longer legs or something...;-) So we wound up with an Olympic Duathlon which I've never done. The swim usually warms me up so starting on the bike through me as well as most of the guys around me. Plus being on the second to last row I had to wait for basically everyone in the sprint and Oly go first. On the upside there were not many people left to pass me and I passed at least a hundred people mostly women on the way out and back.
Standing around waiting to jump on the bike.
