Swim
Comments: Felt pretty good on the swim. Wish I had warmed up first but didn't really have time. I didn't really feel warmed up until I rounded the second bouy and swam with the current, but then I did really well. I was very satisfied with my performance. I started wide to the right so I didn't get caught in the "washing machine." Didn't feel out of breath like my last one. Felt pretty good most of the way. (Except when I got mouthfuls of salt water because of the choppy water!) What would you do differently?: Maybe warm up first. Transition 1
Comments: I'm still struggling with mounting the bike running. I have to stop to mount. I don't know what happened to me in transition. This time is terrible! What would you do differently?: Move a little faster! Bike
Comments: I was pretty happy with this ride. A little frustrated that some people who were behind me on the swim passed me. Whenever someone passed me, I would usually do better because I would have someone to pace with for a while. There was a stretch where the olympic racers left the sprinters and I was by myself for quite a little while, and I noticed that I didn't do as well without someone to pace with. I did forget my gels in transition, so I actually got "hungry!" I had some Heed to drink in my bottles so that helped What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: It seems like I took a bit longer than I should have. Not really sure why. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Run
Comments: Ran a bit out of transition and then walked for a few minutes to get my legs back. I felt like my feet were numb and tingly from the ride. But got feeling back and felt better so then I began to run 4 minutes and walk 1 minute. Did pretty good with that for a while, but then it began to fall apart! With two miles to go and still having to go up and down and up and down on that bridge, my left foot started to hurt (in the forefoot). It was pure agony for the remainder of those two miles! What would you do differently?: Do something about my shoes and learn to run! Some people can walk as fast as I ran this race!!! Post race
Warm down: I was close to the last person in and so by the time I crossed the finish line, they were announcing for racers to get their bikes out of transition as they were tearing it down. So I didn't really get to walk around as much as I would have liked to and by the time I found my husband with my bike, I was feeling really sick. Not sure why ... maybe lactic acid dumped into my system? But I had to sit down at a picnic table with my head on the table. Felt like I would throw up or pass out or both! My husband poured cold water over me for a while and I couldn't seem to catch my breath. It was awful. He had to go get the car and bring it closer than it was. There was no way I would've been able to walk the 1/2 mile to the car. Then he came to get me and I still couldn't get up for a bit. Walking the probably 50 feet to the car I had to stop twice because I felt like I was going to throw up! I was seriously wondering what the heck was I thinking doing this race!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not being able to run! Event comments: If I hadn't of felt so awful afterwards, I would say I enjoyed this race. I actually did enjoy it until the run! It was a great swim and an enjoyable ride - pretty, scenic and not too hot. I just wish I could run! Everyone that I was ahead of on the swim and/or bike passed me on the run. That sucked!! Woke up at 4:00 a.m. to leave at 4:30. The race was about an hour and a half away in Melbourne, FL. Drank coffee and had peanut butter and bread. Got there about 6:00 and had to check in and get everything set up. Of course, it was still dark out!
Ran around a little bit, but didn't warm up in the water or anything specific.
