Run
Comments: I knew my Garmin was going to get spotty reception under the canopy so I wrote my mile pace targets on my hand. Very old school but very effective. The first mile was a bit slower than my target. The second mile, I picked up the pace a bit since I was feeling pretty good. At the turn around, I pretty much opened it up. The people I was running with said I just left them in the dust. When I hit the last bridge crossing the river, I ran into the sunlight and immediately thought I was going to puke. The heat hit me like a rock! I slowed down a little and then sprinted to the end. (I never did puke.) There was a gal that crossed the line at the same time as me. She was pacing off me for the last half of the race. She said she had never run a 10K that fast. Good for her for getting a PR! What would you do differently?: Do more speed work. Where-o-where has my speed gone? Can I find you again? Post race
Warm down: I ran back onto the course to run a friend into the finish. She met her pace goal as well! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing really. I ran to the best of my current ability. Event comments: Avenue of the Giants is a fantastic venue! You can't go wrong by picking any of the available distances. Last updated: 2010-04-17 12:00 AM

Drove one hour to the race start. We left early to get a decent parking spot.
I nursed and fed Aidan and then left him with Corina to watch while I ran the 10K and Brett ran the half mary. I did a short little run before I made my way to the front of the pack. I didn't want to get stuck behind the walkers.
