Swim
  • 04m 8s
  • 150 yards
  • 02m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nothing special. Swallowed a bit of water. About like a normal pool workout.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get in to the pool and work on drills. Swim is very weak and needs improvement.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Took my time and had not practiced. No hurries no worries. Trouble clipping in to the bike. Ranked 47 out of 66
What would you do differently?:

Spend a bit of time practicing / thinking about this part of the race.
Bike
  • 17m 38s
  • 5 miles
  • 17.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went very well. Kept it in a bit lower gears and spun at around 75 RPM by my estimate. Out of the saddle on the hill both out and back. Road very well overall. However, at the turn around point I did absolutely terrible. Probably cost myself 30 seconds by making a big slow loop.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice mounting, dismounting and turn arounds. In practice, continue to work on bringing up the cadence.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Took a very long time in this transition. Did not have speed laces or any practice. Ranked 60 out of 66
What would you do differently?:

Get some speed laces and practice.
Run
  • 10m 22s
  • 1.3 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Time on run was outstanding. Irony is that I felt very winded during the entire run. Ate a couple of bites of a granola bar in transition and it did not sit well with me / felt like it was stuck in the back of my throat the entire time. Legs felt very good -- only issue was with lungs
What would you do differently?:

No granola bar in the transition. Continue to build base in practice. Work on some bricks in practice.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing big, just walked around for a bit. Did not have a HRM, but was back to normal feeling within about 2 minutes. Body feels great. No burn in the lungs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Two major limiters. First is the lack of a sufficient base. With only a single month training, just don't have the miles to perform as I should. Second is the lack of practice for the transitions. Though about this, but decided to leave it alone / take it easy.

Event comments:

Had a great time with my first event. Certainly would liked to have performed better, BUT my times were actually a bit better than I had estimated. Good start, looking forward to getting back to training and stepping up to a bit longer race
