Pre-race routine:

Race is 1 block from my shore house. Got up early went over and put my bike on an end spot, then went back to the house for an hour.
Event warmup:

Got into the water for a couple of minutes to get used to it....very cold.
Swim
  • 10m 16s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 33s / 100 meters
Comments:

Bad swim. I still struggle with keeping my breathing and heartrate under control in run in swims. I excel at wade starts as you just start swimming. When you run in, you really can't keep your breathing down. Takes me a good while to get it back under control. After first bouy was ok. Swim was into current and then you had to run back to the start to get to transition so made the times longer. Still slow for me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Suit still stuck on heel a little but better this race. Chinstrap got caught on handle bar and came out. Had to pull it back in and then re-clip it. Kind of a bad transition and comical, but I am not really working on these as they don't matter at IM.
Bike
  • 21m 27s
  • 8.3 miles
  • 23.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed a little and had fun on the bike. I had a long week (14 hours) of training and no taper coming in so my legs weren't exactly fresh. Short bike so you could push it a little and not really pay for it.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Uneventful.
Run
  • 22m 29s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad run. Was tired, but was able to keep a decent turnover. I really didn't push it and ran at a comfortable pace. Picked it up the last half mile and had a slight negative split for the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and watched others finish.

Event comments:

Fun race and for a good cause. Loved seeing some of the injured Marines racing alongside us. Made you feel proud of this great country and the people who serve it.

Finished 3rd in both AG and military division but took the prize pack for military which was some pretty nice swag! Can you say free Oakleys?

First time race director did a great job keeping the race well organized.
