Swim
Comments: First TRI swim completed without too much drama. I couldn't figure out why people were swimming in my direction until I decided I had moved a bit off course. I think I added 50 yards or so in terrible sighting. What would you do differently?: Swim WITH the swimmers instead of AT the swimmers. I was very happy to not be last out of the water in my wave. I knew I was going to be slow, in fact that was the plan. Transition 1
Comments: I was gassed pretty hard after the super short swim. I motored my way to my bike to find not many left in my rack (hmmm I guess I need to swim faster at some point). Really short haul to the bike out from my sweet transition spot. What would you do differently?: Nothing yet - work on swimming better so I could move better in transition. Bike
Comments: Holy crap! I was 4th fastest of the super sprint field on the bike! 250W was the goal from my coach and 242W was my actual. Cadence was a bit lower than what I have been working on but it took a bit on the bike before I realized my cadence was way too low. 25-30MPH on the way back really helped bring the 17.7 MPH average from the way out up. What would you do differently?: Ride more so I can go faster. Transition 2
Comments: Since my last DU had a terrible T2, I was a bit cautious here not wanted to pull my calf and cripple my run. What would you do differently?: Nothing for now. Run
Comments: Wish I had more in the tank here. This was the only portion of my race I was even remotely disappointed with. Still by far my fastest second run split from a DU and obviously everything is a PR in your first Tri. I passed one runner on the run course (it just so happened he was the only person I was trying to pass in my wave) What would you do differently?: Train harder to run faster. Not drink in a run this short. I wasted time here. Post race
Warm down: Not quite a melt-down but I needed to sit. I did use up pretty much all I had on the course. Drank quite a bit of water / Gatorade and one beer (THANKS JUSTIN!) Felt great after about 10 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training (my first race) Event comments: It was awesome having my wife & girls, Justin & girls at the race cheering. My mother in law was also still in town which was kinda cool. Thanks for the support! The RD and support did a great job with this race. I can't think of anything I would improve on. Traffic control was OUTSTANDING. Timing was up quickly - food / drinks were spot on. I am sure some competitors may feel slighted by the bike in and out in the same location favoring those of us with sweet transition locations. I acknowledge that I was blessed in this race and I am sure I will be on the flip side in some race in the future. The live music was a nice touch. Thanks Eric for the great advice - we haven't been working together long at all but I have already seen the results of working with a coach. I drank the Power Tap Kool-Aid and am more dedicated than ever to training with power. Last updated: 2010-04-19 12:00 AM

Peanut Butter + toasted bread + water
Swam enough to get wet. Good to know the water was warm and there would be no walking the swim (last year it was not very deep for the swimmers). Calmed my nerves a bit.
