Lake Geneva Extreme Sports Series

Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 46m 18s
Overall Rank = 288/588
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 11/20
Pre-race routine:

Slice of peanut butter toast and honey with a banana. Stayed in the car to keep dry and warm.
Event warmup:

Jogged in place - in the rain. Did not do swim warm up - I thought it would be colder standing around waiting for the race to start.
Swim
  • 10m 43s
  • 350 yards
  • 03m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terrible swim. Bumping into people who were WALKING in the shallow water. Goggles fogged the entire swim and with all the bottle necks I couldn't get into a rhythm. I mean really - a ten minute swim - embarrassing.
What would you do differently?:

Spit more in goggles and just swim it!
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Had to put on socks since I didn't want to bike without and risk blisters.
What would you do differently?:

Due to rain everything wet and was a little harder to put on socks.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 24s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 18.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Dealt with wet roads and anticipated corners to brake.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder up on hills. Spun out on down hills maxed out at 40 mph.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Ran down wrong aisle to rack the bike - DUH. But only cost a couple of seconds. The wet sand and mud was difficult to navigate and keep cleats clean. Narrow chute and got stuck behind some guy who couldn't clip his shoes in!
What would you do differently?:

Keep track of the right aisle.
Run
  • 31m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

Rained heavily during run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bigger hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for son and daughter to complete their race and started to cramp up so did limited stretching in the rain.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more training on BIG hills.

Event comments:

The swim was disappointing after training so hard for it. Way to short and crowded. I felt like it was an excuse not to lay out the right length course. Transition security was non-existent and I was concerned my bike could "walk" and with transition open there were quite a few people just hanging around which could cause delays. Sweatshirt was pretty basic and what's with BROWN!
