Comments:

I started out with an easy pace but the hill proved to be too much for me to run so I walked up the first hill - 1 mile 15.3 m/mile.
At first everyone was passing my and all that was left were 3 behind me. Then after the first hill I started passing people..I think they spent too much on that hill. I tried to keep my pace easy for the first 3 miles..but the hills were pretty intense..even the people way ahead of me were walking them. I ran out of gas at mile 5..since this was my max distance run in the past few months I am not surprised. But this was a serious wall. It was finally flat and I couldn't run..I wanted to stop and sit down..that has never happened to me. I saw that the finish was down a paved hill and I dug deep to run the finish. Overall I was happy with most of my run. I was pacing even to last year for most of the race..but the last mile it all fell apart. This was a training race for BAM which is at the same venue. It is a challenging race and I am proud that I finished only a little over my 1:30 planned time.
What would you do differently?:

Run the hills by my house more..I kind of slacked off in favor of flatter routes this year. Run a few 6 milers the month before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the tee shirt stand..got a banana and a water..walked to my car..stretched and drove back to the cabin (had to check out in one hour and needed a shower).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hill work

Event comments:

They only had 2 aid stations with water. The entire course is exposed and it was warming up quickly. I had remembered from last year that this was the case...so I brought my hydration belt with electrolytes and used the water stops to dump water on my head.

For those who can run this race in sub 1 hr..these stops would be sufficient..but there were the majority of the racers still on the course after this time and I believe that either another aide station or some other option than water is necessary. But it is only a $15 race so....

Other problem...I registered as soon as it opened up and race t's were not given out when we checked in but after we finished. So..by the time I finished..all the larges were gone..so my options were medium or XXL. Kind of lame.
