Pre-race routine:

Starbucks & Apple fritter, set up as late as possible. Tried to deal with the mud.

Event warmup:

None, too muddy
Swim
  • 08m 43s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tried the shorty wetsuit, got in to the lake, it was still too cold and switched to the full wet suit, but the water was WARM compared to the Walla Walla lake!

Swim
Got as used to the water as I could, still suffered from an ice cream headache, and my stroke finally kicked in at the last buoy. It's just too short of a course! 0:08:43
What would you do differently?:

Hope for warmer weather
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

It was a complete mud pit of a Transition zone. Our wave was 2nd to last so everyone had gone thought, and the park was almost a swamp due to the rain the last 2 days before the race.

Think of when you where a kid, and played mud football. There was that much mud.
What would you do differently?:

Skip the race?

Comments:

Bike: Came out of T1 right behind the person who finished ahead of me. He beat me on this portion! The no-pass zone pissed me off, as I was stuck behind a gaggle of riders, until E. lake. Heard a bad crash on the inbound lane when I was on my way out, didn't want to look back & see what happened. Once thereon E. Lake Samm I went as fast as I could. But once again when I came back to the no-pass zone I got stuck behind the 13 mph folks on mountain bikes.... I just kept in mind that used to be me. 0:43:07
What would you do differently?:

Skipp the race
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Mud-pit was even worse now. Had to hose down the bike once I was home, there was mud everywhere. It was amazing how much mud was on everything.
Run
  • 22m 41s

Comments:

Lets just say I was glad when I got to the to the street! Finish line was a mud pit too. Had a surprisingly good time 22:41
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mud, no-pass zones

Event comments:

Most likely will not do this race again. This was the 4th time.

Course: Course was changed, as the original one that goes through the green belt was under water. The new course had us run through soccer fields then on to the street. The soccer fields, when my wave got there had become mud pits as well. Challenging to say the least.
