Swim
Comments: Waited a few seconds after the start to allow the majority to fight their way at the front. Made my way to the right to take advantage of the current and started passing people. I felt really good during the swim...sighting was good, breathing was controlled. I caught up to a few swimmers from the previous wave and a few floters from the 2 waves. Came out of the water, looked at my watch..."holy ____" impressed with my time. Transition 1
Comments: not a great T1 time but a huge improvement over last year...bottom line, it's a long run to T1 (Yellow) Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike...was passing much more than getting passed. Stayed in the saddle almost the entire ride and spun up the hills. Kept my cadence high. At the u-turn in the bronx, took off downhill, hit a big pothole and my Garmin 305 popped out of the quick-release and went airborn. Slowed down, looked back...decided to write it off. Started thinking..."no HR, no GPS, how will I pace myself for the run??? expensive loss, should I go back and really look?, my time will be destroyed, etc..." Cleared my head and said "Forget about the Garmin...time to listen to your body and deal with it" Nutrition: 20-30 oz water/gatorade, 1 gel, 2 enduralytes What would you do differently?: Not lose my Garmin! Transition 2
Comments: Fumbled around trying to open more enduralytes...should've taken them and dealt with it along the course. Run
Comments: Hilly...every year I've said that I will run the course several times before the race. I'm local, no excuses! I DIDN'T!! I did practice hills by running Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges...it worked. I didn't have a problem with the hills. I drank at every aid station and spilled a cup over my head each time. Tried to save some energy for a final sprint...nothing there...was glad to approach the chute. My 2 sons hopped the fence and ran thru the finish line with me. Good photos! I'd love to be able to do the race with them one day. What would you do differently?: practice running the actual course...probably will not happen!?! Post race
Warm down: couldn't get enough fluids...was drinking everything in sight! walked the expo with the family...my kids love the swag. Event comments: Once again...great race! Very well organized. Looking forward to 2011. Last updated: 2010-04-21 12:00 AM
