Swim
Comments: Easy route with 2 turns around bouys. I seeded myself in the group with the estimated swim time between 3:59 and 4:59. Had no idea that I would swim faster than that. Very satisfied with this time given training times have not broken 4:00. What would you do differently?: Seed myself in a faster group, mostly b/c I think they would push me. Transition 1
Comments: Had lots of trouble with the socks and shoes since I was riding in running shoes. Feet were too wet to get the socks on fast. I had one of the slowest T1 times in my age group. What would you do differently?: Considering investing in clipless pedals and riding shoes. If not, then I will likely wear differend socks since these were small, tight running socks and were really a hassle. Bike
Comments: Had a nice ride, didn't know how hard to push though. Good news was I passed more than I got passed. But my time was average and I did get passed a couple times. What would you do differently?: Don't be timid on the bike. Save some for the run but give it a good push. Also, be more efficient on the gears. Several times I could've gone to a bigger gear but held off. Transition 2
Comments: Already in my running shoes. Just needed to ditch the helmet, bike and sunglasses and hit the road. Really didn't have any problem switching to the run, felt strong. What would you do differently?: Will need to practice transitions in general, especially if I get bike shoes. Run
Comments: Felt strong. Kept my pace in check on the first mile and let it fly a little more on the back half. Didn't wear a watch to track my time. In retrospect, I could've opened up a little earlier but I'm not complaining - this pace was much faster than I expected. I was shooting for no slower than 7:30/mile. I really enjoyed the run. It was great to see all the partcipants and especially the finish line! What would you do differently?: Not sure I'll have another race this season with a 2 mile run. But next time I won't be afraid to open it up a little sooner. Post race
Warm down: Fluids. Lots of them. Grabbed some snacks and walked around with my wife and just kept moving. Jumped back in the water to cool down and wash the sweat off - that felt great! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure when to push hard and when to hold off. But overall, very happy with my first tri ever. Can't wait for the next one. Event comments: Great race for first timers like me. It was well organized and the course was well marked and a ton of fun. I told my wife she has to do this race with me next year! Great way to get initiated as a Triathlete. Hats off to all the volunteers and organizers! Last updated: 2010-04-22 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5a, had some toast with peanut butter, banana slices and honey. Wasn't sure of the quickest route to drive so we just followed all the cars with bikes hanging off of them - they led us right there.
Got ready to warm up but stood in line for the bathroom for about 15 minutes. Got a little antsy about waiting to warm up but everyhting worked out fine. Jogged for about 5-7 min and then ditched the shoes and swam about 100m or so. Got a good look at the swim area, route and exit.
