Comments: My execution plan was this: 0-10k: @ or below 165 bpm 10-18k: 165-172bpm 19k: steady at 172bpm bring it home by gunning it. It went perfectly. I have SUCH good control over HR while running now, and it's gotten to the point where I can sense slight deviations in HR (~2bpm) by feel. This was really well done. What would you do differently?: Figure out just how much more I could push in the last 4kms or so. I finished really strong, but not tired at all. I taxed myself aerobically at the end, but didn't trash my legs enough overall in the run. It was a GOOD effort, no doubting that, but it wasn't all out... I'm still really proud of what I achieved, almost a 10' PR from just 6 months ago. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched, ate bananas and drank Powerade, met up with friends that were cheering me on, chilled at a cafe in the spring sun. What limited your ability to perform faster: - Mental strength of knowing just how far I can push before imploding - More speed work, more hill work will get me to be a speedier runner in this short course stuff. Event comments: The one thing that saves this race is that SO many people do it. The course isn't exactly beautiful (it skirts the city, stays mainly in Southbank/Albert Park, but city running isn't awesome. There wasn't enough Powerade at the drink stations (too much water) also. But... there were 9000 people running the half-marathon, and countless more doing a marathon, 10k and shorter distances. It was pretty epic running with all those people. I had fun, and most of all I beat a 'friend' of mine that thinks he's sort of a hotshot. I beat him by a LONG SHOT. Last updated: 2010-04-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5.40am, had a good breakfast, caught up on what had happened in the IM world champs so far, took a 20' nap, got changed and ready, then biked to the race.
I used the bike ride as the warm-up because once I arrived and entered the corral, there wasn't any space to warm up. Jogged in place and kept warm.
